Who will be the next Prime Minister

Yep, an autumn election is now more likely than not, a no confidence vote would trigger one, which might be the only tool left for those against no deal/proroguing parliament. Whoever the new PM is will need to pass an initial HoC confidence vote, and even if that passes, another one can happen any time before the end of Oct. Assuming Johnson will win, he's already boxed himself into a corner saying we will definitely leave by 31st Oct. He can only do that in the time frame by going no deal, and at that point there'll be a no confidence vote. I think Johnson knows this and therefore is happy to say now that we'll leave by the 31st, in order to win members' votes, knowing that he can later say parliament stopped him from doing it. Brexiters are clueless when it comes to the complexities of Brexit, but very good at the more simplistic blame game. Dangerous game playing in dangerous times...

If BJ became PM then I'd be happy to see a GE, however both BJ and JC are as bad as each other and as such would both be disastrous PM's for the UK. Perhaps a GE would not provide a clear winner and the UK would end up with another five years of a coalition government. That has to be a better outcome than either of those two clowns becoming PM.

Not sure JC would be a disaster as PM - the difficult thing would be to win outright a GE - not sure anyone can. The worse outcome would be a coalition with Labour/Tories/Farage as nothing would get done. Also not sure what the position of the Brexit Party would be if Brexit ever actually happened - no other policies on anything.

Michael Portillo on This Week suggested that the way BJ will get out of the corner is by letting the people of NI have a referendum on the backstop. The one which affects NI only. On the face of it this makes sense as NI is overall pro EU. How he would bring about this is another thing.

To be honest, it doesn't matter who is the next PM or which party would win a General election, politicians are all from the same breed, hard, self centred and in it for themselves not the public

I miss Screaming Lord Sutch and the Monster Raving Loony Party - who strangely are still a political party and were active in this years Peterborough by election with thier candidate Alan "Howling Laud" Hope

That is clearly not the case. There are many committed, hardworking politicians at local and national level. Brexit has polarised us as a country and some are now more inclined to lump all elected representatives in together.

If you can?t, as a nation, see the problems in believing ?Miliband = chaos? or Brexit will be fine, or having narrowly won a brexit referendum, treated the losers as exactly that... well, this is where you end up

If you have decided that after decades of tories and labour, you want something else, but instead of choosing from many other parties you choose the Brexit party (and recent polls show them leading other parties) the you and I might not like it - but we are getting what we collectively deserve. This isn?t politicians fault (not entirely anyway)

Except that we are not necessarily getting the government and prime minister we want or deserve as there is no GE planned. The Conservatives are putting Party before country again imo and very probably putting an ill equipped person into the highest office. The electorate will have had no say in that process.

We can't know that. It would probably be a non workable coalition as mentioned further back on here. I'm not sure why die hard (presumably Brexit supporting) Tories would support either of those two parties. Remain Tories as a one off in the recent EU yes. The ones you refer to would be more likely to go to Farage.

That poll by Comres that gave Boris a huge majority worried me as would a Brexit Party-Tory Party agreement.

Hard to disagree with this, but there are still some good politicians around, especially on the backbenches.

But the overall standard of politicians has definitely dropped and I'd add journalists to the list too. While watching the Tory debate yesterday and hearing Gove, Hunt et al claiming that they would do this and that with the Withdrawal Agreement, no one seemed to be aware that as I've mentioned before, a condition of the current extension is that the WA cannot be reopened. I expect politicians to conveniently ignore this, but it would be good if at least one journalist made this point and in doing so instantly shot down their unicorns there and then...
