pk
On the upside thousands and thousands of people have made great memories of amazing days in London?s beautiful parks listening to music that they love with friends and familyI reckon that?s a good thing (and that almost always reasonable steps are taken to consider local people, but you can?t please all the people all the time) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/226585-gala-festival-in-peckham-rye-park/page/6/#findComment-1342082 Share on other sites
Loutwo
Yes but what about the not so nice memories for residents nearby who had their bank holiday weekend ravaged by noise pollution, crowds and a beautiful park they weren?t able to fully use (and still cannot). pk
You think people linger on these terrible memories of being ?ravaged?(!) for long? Now that?s sad Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/226585-gala-festival-in-peckham-rye-park/page/6/#findComment-1342090 Share on other sites
first mate
I think that's the concern Louisa, that we face creeping privatisation of our public spaces. And, thus far, money made by the council does not go towards upkeep of the park but to fund more events, albeit free for now. Loutwo
Just out of curiosity, how close do pk and Lenming live to the park? Evidently not as close perhaps as some of those with concerns on here? As long as you had fun,> who cares about the neighbours.Alas I can't say I canvassed every house for opinion (perhaps next year) - but as a very sociable bit of street with a lot a neighbours who know, chat and socialise with each other on a day to day basis - I can report that nobody I know was RAVAGED. A few said they wished they'd got tickets. A few said they wished they were younger, or didn't have young kids, so they could have got tickets. Some went out for the day and did something else. Some were a bit grumbly but ended up at "ah well" and moved on. A few said 'our kids are going, hope it's good'. They're generally an empathetic lot, I expect they simply extended some of that empathy in the general direction of the park for a day or two. You should give it a go.However.. I will be sure to let them all know that someone who doesn't even live nearby was determined to get in a tiresome stew about it on their behalf - for internet kicks. first mate
Good points Nigello although I hope that we do not go the way of other boroughs in terms of the volume of events in future (no pun intended).Nigello Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I didn't hear a thing, though I did last year, so> that is a success. Humdinger
Ravaged! Depressing! Terrible!Classic stuff. Straight out the Daily Mail! The individuals problem's are about a lot more than a tame music festival happening 2 days out of 365 with a finishing time of 10pm, they are with the world and life itself. Whilst quite sad, it is also a source of amusement.
