Would recommend La Palma. One of the smaller islands. Definitely not tacky and not that touristy. Lots of volcanic mountains and banana plantations. Has a very Spanish feel. We went with a 3 year old and she had a great time. The only downside is that the beaches are not great and black (volcanic sand). But we stayed in a hotel with a lovely pool so we didn't miss it.
On the subject of holidays (sorry to hijack thread a little) how does everyone feel about taking young babies to very hot places? We're thinking of going on holiday this summer and have looked into one of the balearic islands around June time, temp will be Mid to Late 20s, how do little ones cope with this? Obviously will cover in suncream and wear hat/have sun umbrella/keep out of midday sun etc but do they cope ok?

emza78 - go for it. You are talking about a sensible approach to the heat. They cope by having a brilliant holiday with their family and love being in the sea / pool outdoors.

The worse thing I have encountered about hot holidays is toddlers freaking out at the feel of sand beneath their feet and some interfering cow saying to my hubbie 'I hope that child has got suncream on'.

hi we went to lanzarote and stayed at this villa link to villa

it was amazing, the drive way is off road over a big hill and you would need a car as it is about 10 mins drive to the nearest town but its fantastic, amazing views, beautiful villa.

the picture of the back of the villa with all of the little walkways is all within the villas land and you cant get out of it its all gated so our daughter loved it and felt so safe letting her play in the grounds.

everything you would need, microwave, washer etc. Pool is lovely, lanzarote had a law passed that all buildings had to be under 3 stories high ans painted white so you will find no high rise blocks and has a lovely village feel all over the island.

    • It's more likely a buzzard – one or two have been seen in recent years, particularly over Dulwich and Sydenham Woods. You don't have to go far to see them regularly – Addington, West Wickham and Biggin Hill, for instance.
    • Roll on the time  , if ever, when we adopt the Australian system whereby the agreed price becomes binding. The whole process takes place much more swiftly and with less hassle than it does here. Scotland have a good system also.
