Au Pair Needed Urgently - Start Date End of May

Recommended Posts

We are a young professional family living in Honor Oak Park (SE23). My 6-year-old son attends Fairlawn Primary School on Honor Oak Park Road and my daughter attends Nursery / Childminder depending on the day in the local area. We are looking to secure someone urgently from the end of May 2019 for up to 1 year (minimum 2 terms).

Our au pair has a bright, modern double room to herself with ample storage in our loft. We consider her a member of the family and she eats most of her meals with us, some of which she offers to cook, which is a lovely bonus. In addition to food and board, she receives ?100 per week pocket money when the children are with their mother and father (for the weekends & holiday time this is not paid but everything else remains the same). She will be included in family activities so that she gets the most out of her time with us, but it?s totally up to her if she would like to participate.

Our au pair's day starts at 8am when she gets the children dressed and ready for school. They have breakfast at home and then they are taken to school/nursery or childminder. The time between 9.30am and 3.15pm is her own to study or socialize, and she's back on duty to collect the children from school and care for them until 7pm when I get home. The hours after school consist of 3 blocks of helping with homework, educational play, and dinner/getting ready for bed. The weekends are her own, save for the fact that we ask for 2 nights per week babysitting which may include a Friday or Saturday night. She helps me by doing her own and the children?s washing and generally being conscientious in our home, helping me to keep it clean and tidy. We ask that she doesn?t invite overnight guests to the house.

We will only consider a female au pair and already have a right to work as an au pair in the UK.

    • It's great that the council will do this, but it does seem a costly waste of their scarce resources, unless there are factors which I don't know about? Surely rather than dealing with a few piles of dog poo on request on an as and when basis they need to find some way of addressing the whole problem? What do other boroughs/countries do? Have things got worse since COVID, when the dog population seems to have quadrupled round here? Did some people acquire dogs without thinking through the less cuddly aspects of ownership? Could dogs be trained to use a litter tray and/or bury their own poo, like cats do? 🤣 (That was a joke, btw).

    • They could refund tix already bought though, couldn't they? We did this recently when we had to reschedule a gig due to the headliner's serious illness. That was a bit different because people had the option to transfer their tix to the new date when confirmed. But in  theory everybody could have got a refund, though in practice only a few people took that option up.
    • They probably won't want to after all their sterling efforts last time ended in a rather unexpected way!
