I do like a Market

Last week we went to Brockley Food Market located in the carpark of Lewisham college. Very high standards there & I recommend a visit. Dorset Oysters for breakfast at 90p a go.

(and there's a game dealer from Kent who sells rifle shot Hares in one piece & for that alone i'm very excited)

At the other end of the spectrum I occasionally get up really early and go to the dogtrack at Wimbledon, it's essentially a massive carboot sale on Saturday. But on Wednesday it's a traders market and if you pay a fiver you get in before the public to check out the stock. However, no money can change hands before 10am. It's like a visit to the Star Wars bar , there is it seems a whole bootsale culture. You never can tell what you'll find there and like Ikea it's near on impossible to come out empty handed.

I pay a visit to Borough but not so much as I used too. Brixton market indoors is getting interesting and the food outlets are really good too. Shoreditch early on a Sunday is an eyeopener and throws up some good (but slightly dodgy) stuff.

If you're looking for big-curious-quality furniture then Ardingly antique fair is massive.

Are there any others worth a look ?

Nette stop stalking me, first clubs and now markets :)) yep Brockley market is the destination for hipster families, really good food stalls there.

You'll love the Eat St collective at Kings X, lots of meat! Tongue n' cheek, Buen Provecho, Luardos, the Ribman....the list is endless.

My mate sells lovely jewellery at Spitalfields so I have to mention that too.

We're off to Columbia St market tomorrow to start re-stocking the garden with shrubs, flowers, herbs for Spring.

Highly recommended - tho' parking can nowadays be a pain. Arrive early, have a bagel & coffee for breakfast with the papers - collect stuff and depart for an afternoon's planting.

There is an excellent Spanish cafe with chorizo sardines there too - with excellent espressos but, sadly no chocolate & churros.

Ms Curtain, have you been to Church Road market in Crystal Palace? I haven't btw just wondered if any good. Apparently its a collection of stalls and shops selling second hand (pre-loved taken over from vintage/retro now innit) furniture, clothing etc.

Years ago I used to go to Merton Abbey Mills which was an outdooe and indoor market think there was a car boot sale nearby too.

Hmmm.

Church Road in Crystal Palace is a permanent set up with loads of shops selling mainly furniture and "stuff". You never can tell what you'll find up there & Saturday early is best. I know a fair few of the traders, like Andy from Bambino and Jerry from I.D. It is quite well priced and there's always room for haggling. However, there is a madder/odder market at the back of the Sainsbury's delivery yard. If you have the heart and patience there are things to be found there, but it is slightly odd/weird.

Merton Abbey Mills ( where Liberty once printed their fabric) has declined into a very poor version of Camden i'm afraid.

Anybody know what the name of the area/street near Borough where some stall holders have set up an alternative market ?

OK here's my pennies worth

Herne Hill have a great new market near the station

And if you fancy some rather cute and pretty, then may I suggest the Duck Pond market in Richmond my personal favorite and where I actually trade on a Sunday.

Marylebone Church as a lovely one in the church yard.

And of course the flower market in the East end and the other market over in Hackney near the canal.

There you go that should keep you going for a while!

Went to Brockley Market today - it's v. expensive. Coffee - ?2 for a black one and ?2.50 for addition of milk. Those are sit down prices and have in a china cup prices, not walking around in a cardboard cup prices.

Rib Man was there today.

Mother Flipper burgers range from 5.50 to 6.50.

Mike and Ollie's Wraps are ?6 for a fish one.

There is a good meat seller from Kent there who is also at Peckham Market outside the library and at the Sunday Herne Hill Market. His prices are the same at all the markets.

Rib Man not usually at Brockley. He makes guest appearances every now and then. He's usually at Brick Lane on Sundays. He has a website and is on twitter. Brockley Market in on Lewisham Way near in the grounds of the college car park, not far in a car. It's also close to Hilly Fields for a walk afterwards.
