sociable cycle ride Sat April 13th 10am start

Recommended Posts

Also known as Tour de Rotherhithe but a lot slower (and flatter). No mountains.

The ride starts at 10am at outside Canada Water Library, in Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station SE16 7AR. Rotherhithe is blessed with lots of off road paths beside the docks, along the Thames, through parks and along canals. It is also completely flat. So it's ideal for an easy-paced, gentle ride.

The route meanders across to Southwark Park then heads to the Salter Statues on the river. There's a 4km stretch along the Thames Path as far as Deptford Strand (!)and then inland to the Surrey Canal Linear Park, the South Dock and Greenland Dock.

I was deceiving you before -- there is a very small mountain. The exploration of Russia Woodland ends at Stave Hill. The group will stop to climb the hill and take in the view. Then back to Canada water via Surrey Water.

This is an interesting ride with lots to see and is a good ride for less experienced cyclists as so much is traffic free. Route at https:https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1EJU3mAlb0ghlJnzoXN7wbWmafFE&ll=51.49819300595632%2C-0.04483115000005&z=14. Free, all welcome.

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are a branch of the London Cycling Campaign, which is a charity which campaigns for more, safer cycling in London. You don't have to join anything or live in Southwark to join in. No ID checks, no fees. For more info about the rides contact Bruce on 07729 279 945. For more info on Southwark Cyclists check out https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk or email [email protected]
