thats hilarious, did they forget to print a NO and an ONLY at the end ?

Yay.

Went out to find our big food caddy waiting for me on doorstep.

It's big plenty space for weeks worth food waste.

Labelled ready for use.

Now to order bags for garden waste when need them.

So they are delivering them to Ed neighbours also got one delivered.

I wrote to Eleanor Kelly, Chief Executive of the council on 29th May, to ask some questions about this extra tax and the consequences. I sent the letter recorded delivery so I have proof that it was received on 30th May. She has duly ignored me and my many questions. On 25th June I email her and copied Peter John, Chief Councillor of Southwark asking for a reply, again I have received no reply! Today I have again emailed them both asking for an acknowledgement of my email by the end of today, let's see if I get any reply. I have told them both that failing to get an acknowledgement I would raise the matter to our MP Harriet Harman. Many people in our street and in the area, including myself, have not paid for this extra tax.

I attach a copy of the letter (file and picture of it), I have taken. off my name and email address from the file, I invite you to email it again...

I ordered the food caddie a few months back and got one that just said food waste.

The one my mum has had for years says food waste and garden waste - but not sure what you could fit in it.

I saw some stickers down my road and the waste of plastic tags to sell the subscription.

One of the stickers i saw already had a curled edge, maybe the heat melted the glue.

They will have to start collecting them up soon

Having spoken to my regular Bin man on Tuesday Garden Waste and Food waste are collected at the same time

and will be in the same Dustcart.

Not sure what to do with 'Cooked' food waste ??

Leave it out for the Foxes. It won't be out there long.

The ability to order the paper garden waste sacks (for people like me who have an occasional need for garden waste collection but not enough to need a whole bin) is now up online. 20 sacks for ?15 and there is also a link to book their collection. Obviously haven't tried the collection part yet but have a pile of garden waste that has been piling up so will let you know how I get on.

Do you mean meat/fish/cheese? You can certainly compost all cooked vegetables/fruit. As for meat/fish/cheese, it takes a lot longer and not recommended in low temperature home composting because of the various nasty bacteria that aren't killed off. If you use hot composting (e.g. Hotbin) then it's fine.

Hi Marmora,

You can always escalate and make a complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman - https://www.lgo.org.uk/

Ordered our brown wheelie bin many weeks ago and still nothing - but I have sticker!

If true and relatively few taking up the new Garden Tax then many bins will be removed and presumably destroyed or sold on to possibly other councils. Government review is likely to say garden waste should be collected for free. So in roughly 2-4 years time we'll all be ordering new free brown wheelie bins from Southwark Council to replace the ones surrendered and disposed of. This will cost a large fortune. The council will complain about the government - rather than admitting how short sighted they've been.

I spoke too soon - the page to order garden waste bags has now been changed to "beta" and doesn't complete when you try and select your address for the bags to be sent to, but it looks like it is coming at some unspecified future time.

The idea that you implement this sort of service by putting a fully functioning webpage up and then changing it to "beta" and making it non-functional a few hours later is indicative of Southwark's totally half-a**ed approach to this whole system IMO.

Sorry, still confused by this system.

We haven't subscribed yet so don't have a sticker, nor do we have a small food caddy despite requesting one in April so last week we had to put our food (no garden waste) in big brown bin.

It wasn't taken last Tuesday so we contacted Southwark via their "missed collections" page last Wednesday and were told it would be dealt with in two days.

Still haven't heard back, food now rotting in the heat still in big brown bin. What are the chances of it being taken on the next round?

Are we just unlucky or are others experiencing similar issues?

And as a postscript - if they don't take the food in big brown bins, what will they do with it when they come to remove our bin as we haven't subscribed?

Any Large Brown bin without a Sticker will very soon be removed.

I spoke with the Bin man today.

I had Garden Waste in my Large Brown Bin (with Sticker) and Food waste in my New Garden Caddie.

I said to the guy. "I haven't put the food bags in the Big bin because I was told not to"

He said " that's Ok I'm going to. It's all going to the same place"

He put the Food waste bags in the Big Bin with the Garden waste and took it out to the Dust cart.

It's all about Southwark Council exploiting its residents and making them pay for the Councils Incomitance.

    • No, you won't stop me there.  Sephiroth, what you don't like is people disagreeing with your blinkered view of what this Govt are doing, steering the country into economic turmoil. And as of this morning 1.9m people have so far signed the petition.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YiinHLdspA  No it's not far right, its the people speaking out and saying Starmer, Reeves and Rayner got it wrong. We don't want an economic crash which is where they are taking us, the last thing the people want is inflation rising along with interest rates and mortgages, and food, and energy costs, and , and, and, and, the list is endless. What people do want is this bunch of fools removed from office before they do any more damage to the country. And when Kemi takes Office, all this foolishness imposed during Starmagedon will be reversed.  The people have had enough, they realise the damage being done to the country. They realise that employers are cutting back on jobs and already making people redundant They recognise the cost of living is increasing, not decreasing. They recognise that Energy prices are increasing, not decreasing as Starmer promised. They recognise that the hike in employer NI contributions hurts everyone in this country. They recognise that the Winter fuel allowance has been rescinded, leaving pensioners to freeze in their homes. They recognise that life is going to get more, not less expensive because of Reeves failed budget, they recognise that the tax on farmers land will result in farmers not supplying food and causing food shortages, WHY can't you see this.   Now as for "b) more than a little bit unstable and posting random links from far right YouTube sites" - No I'm not unstable, you just don't like the truth being pointed out to you.  "there have always been people like this in the country and now they have a way to express it - in no way should it deflect a government or represent majority of people". The purpose of the lounge is to enable people to express what they she happening, at the moment by an inept Govt, about to crash the country into a huge economic iceberg, taking us back probably to the economics of the 1920's.  You even disagree with what is said in the House of Commons, when Liebour get harpooned and Reeves runs out of the chamber because she can't accept scrutiny and doesn't want to answer the questions, as she Fked up.
    • "No I'm not unstable, you just don't like"   Can I stop you there? Leaving aside the first bit of that statement (and I'd be interested in what other readers genuinely think about that) there is little point jabbing a finger and saying "you just don't like" when it is YOU that "just doesn't like" a democratically elected govt with a massive majority and are taking steps to over throw it with pathetic excuses As I've pointed out the last govt did many many things not in their manifesto, changed leader 3 times without presenting to electorate - so don't give me any nonsense about "I just don't like"
