We may never know who fired the shots, but within a few seconds the police had it under contol and were just going about getting all the evidence they needed. No ambulances were at the scene and at least 3 suspect were taken away after being throughly searched.

Why waste police time - clearly nothing of importance has happened.

I walked past shortly after the event, having been booted off the bus, and it was still cordoned off. A policeman very very politely asked us to walk around Piedmont Green rather than through the crime scene, and said that shots had been fired.

I can't imagine anyone was hurt, as the road reopened five or ten minutes later.

Oh dear, so there definitely were some gun shots fired then :(

There were bangs which were assumed at the time to be gun shots - quite possibly a starting pistol - the fact that there has been so little in the news etc. suggests that this may not have been live ammuninition - when that is used the police tend to cordon off for some considerable time afterwards for forensics etc.
