Southwark Council has decide to introduce car parking fees in its larger parked - Belair, Dulwich and Peckham Rye parks - http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/documents/s80898/Report%20-%20Car%20parking%20charges%20in%20parks.pdf

Charge will be ?2 ph, free for Blue Badge Holders.

Given how difficult it is to get a Blue Badge I imagine this will leave numbers of people with mobility issues now having to pay for the privilege of using the park. People should not be hoodwinked into thinking that because Blue Badge holders are exempt that the needs of the infirm and disabled are covered.

If you go to either Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens one has to pay.

Ruskin Park and Brockwell Park also have to pay - in Ruskin it is linked to resident parking so have to pay between noon - 2pm.

Anyway, councils are strapped for cash so if one wants to enjoy the park and drive one pays - most people can cycle, walk, take a bus! And do what a good number do now - park on nearby roads which is free.

Mothers who have children activities in Francis Peake Building will have to pay or park further away and walk/ carry babies and toddlers.

About time people stop taking things for granted.

I wonder what happens to community groups? Do they have a different rate? Free or Pay?

One assumes that there will be notices in carparks about this.

Agree with Asset.

motorists are an easy target.

I've just got rid of my car so Southwark will get sod all from me unless they start charging to WALk

through the park.

Once they start charging you can bet your life saving car parks will be made larger.

Time to get rid of Taxing Labour Southwark council

Ridiculous.

Gallery Road is already a nightmare at drop off and pick up with parking both sides of the road around Dulwich Prep.

This will just make the situation worse and also mean people using the park, playground and all the clubs on Saturdays are less likely to.

Are you really quoting a song from a band who actively took tax avoidance measures?!

Or time to get rid of austerity Tory government that has slashed budgets so badly that all councils (including Tory ones) are forced to try and raise revenue wherever they can to try and avoid cuts in essential services?

John Lennon?s second wife, Yoko Ono, is a naturalized American citizen. Their son Sean was born in New York, and is therefore an American citizen. Ringo Starr?s second wife, Barbara Bach, is American. George Harrison met his second wife, Olivia, in Los Angeles, where she grew up.

The Beatles had been paying tax at 95%

Get your facts right.

And you think a non-Labour Southwark council would have made money how?

It is the Tory so-called government who has cut council funding to the bone, as I understand it.

How do you understand it?

I understand that under its current leadership Labour is unelectable.

But that's a different story.

You cannot use the motorist for every shortfall in Council Funding.

Southwark Council wasting Millions on unnecessary road schemes that do nothing to improve traffic flow.

There should be no need to charge people to park their cars in our Parks.

I would like to know who came up with that little Nugget.

I'm not really sure why you adapted that info from here: https://www.quora.com/Are-any-of-the-Beatles-family-US-citizens nor why the national status of their wives has any relevance to the fact that they set up the Northern Songs company and then Apple to minimise their tax exposure?

Anyway, we're wandering away from car parking costs...

Anyone who knows ANYTHING about local government knows that if the Tories are in Central Government then the Labour Councils will cut FRONT LINE services and make life VERY uncomfortable for the general public...but they will NEVER cut the admin and backroom staff- EVER.....it is obscene the way that Labour councils, especially in poor areas, make life VERY uncomfortable for the people and then blame central government...that is how they get their votes- as far as I can see, having been brought up in a very poor borough, all that Labour ever do is cr*p on the working class and since they failed to educate anyone, brainwash them into thinking it is the Tories' fault...they even sink so low as to leaflet schools- they are worse than the clergy.....

There will be council tax increases too I expect (all over the UK).

In some ways it's better to add charges onto things that are voluntary (feel free to disagree :))

Yeah, you've been spewing this crap on here for years, and repetition does not make it (or you) any less repellent, false or stupid. If there was an ounce of truth in your absurd statements, why are all Tory councils having to make similar cutbacks to those made in Labour areas? Central government funding for Southwark council has been cut by ?107M, or 27%, since 2010. That, as idiots like you are so fond of typing, is FACT.

    • As a result of the Horizon scandal it now seems very clear that the Post Office management are highly disingenuous and not be trusted!  There needs to be a campaign launched to challenge the threatened closure, unless the Post Office can demonstrate beyond doubt that the branch is loss making - and even then it could argued that better management could address this. I hope the local media take this up and our MP  and a few demonstrations outside wouldn’t do any harm. Bad publicity can be very effective!
    • Unlikely. It would take a little more than a bit of Milton to alter the pH of eighty-odd thousand gallons of water.
    • It actually feels as though what I said is being analytically analysed word by word, almost letter by better. I really don't believe that I should have to explain myself to the level it seems someone wants me to. Clearly someones been watching way too much Big Brother.
