The going home for the weekend song thread...come on you groovey foookers

Recommended Posts

Another weekend looms, so what better way to go on and what is likely to be the hottest day of the year so far, but to begin with some more "Going home for the weekend" tunes. First up is;

Delegation, "Put a little love on me"

Followed very swiftly by this little ditty of a tune I came across;

Bobby Womack, "It's party time"

Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Just so you know, I've just enabled Youtube links.

Its now simpler - all you need to do is enter the Youtube URL , e.g. "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4ZipKdI1sY" and the video will show on the page automatically. You don't need to copy the 'embed' code like before.

(malumbu I have edited your post to make it work)

Unfortunately the previous Youtube links have been lost but they will work from now on :-)

I've just heard that there is a national emergency and from the accent of the announcer that the UK has been taken over by the yanks.  A few of us tried this a few years ago  https://petition.parliament.uk/archived/petitions/43480

And there was a pop song in support of becoming the 51st state

The sun is out and we should all be happy.  This has become a bit of an ear worm after I by chance heard it on TOTP 1980 something or other but should cheer all of us up.  The ragamuffin dress no doubt influenced by Dexy's but unlike the throwaway cliche Eileen stage of their career (and Dexys did excellent stuff before and after) this is timeless.  [Heavens just realised how influenced this was by Dexy's young soul rebels]

    • Thanks everyone, that’s encouraging to hear- I’ve now taken a chance and ordered my parcel . Fingers crossed!
    • I used the Forum to find a reliable plumber who could respond to an emergency. Niko responded quickly and was able to come over and fix the problem efficiently and effectively. He was professional, courteous and thoughtful. He was also keen that I contacted him after a few days to check with him that I was still happy with the work he had done.  I have no hesitation in recommending Niko and would certainly call on him again.  Thanks Niko
    • Thanks George.  The sub post office sold penny sweets - a blast from the past.  They were happy to let the post office go as they told me there had been some serious robberies - with menace.  But it didn't last much longer Roy operated from very old coach house building from the adjacent hotel, he sold these and built a brand new facility, he had to use yellow brick, but then some personal stuff meant that he had to let it go, and there was no reason to keep a garage there so were turned into apartments.  There were some very shacky and old buildings on the other side (to the left as you look from the street) and a mobile mechanic used to work from there, but they went I think after Covid. The coal sheds from the branch line would have been behind as well. I phoned Robert Elms up on his programme when he was asking about a London pub which had doubled up as an undertakers.  It may have been the Moore Park Hotel but I was more interested in Elm's views as he doesn't recognise that SE London exists, Well, begrudgingly Peckham, as one of his kids lives there. We did a local pub crawl many years ago starting with the hotel, which had been turned into flats by then, but we had some home made stout and made our own pub sign for a bit of fun. Of course this side of the road is Lewisham, so we shouldn't be discussing it here, but I wont tell anyone.
