New Japanese restaurant: Monkatsu on North Cross Rd

A thumbs up from me for this new Japanese restaurant that has now opened on the site of what was previously Bonne Bouffe. I had dinner there on Sunday night: vegetable gyoza and chicken gyoza as starters, then a very tasty Katsu curry to follow. Cost: ?55 + service for the two of us (including a bottle of white wine). The service was friendly and efficient too. Hopefully they will soon have their chip and pin machine up and running and a bit more certainty about their opening hours. But on first impressions this felt like a good addition.

My partner and I ate a lovely lunch st Monkatsu today. We were given a free miso soup (tasty) followed by sushi and sashimi for me and a mixed Katsu curry for him. Plus a couple of glasses of wine.

Service was charming. ?40 all in.

We shall be going back!

Went there for lunch on Sunday.

Really impressed, had gyoza to start then my other half had a Katsu curry which he thoroughly enjoyed.

I had sashimi platter which was melt in the mouth fresh and of excellent quality

We will definitely return

it was fairly priced too with friendly efficent service.

Got down there last night. Great addition to the area, tried a few things they were all really good - with prices more than reasonable for the quality on offer.

Not mad fond of the space itself though (presumably unchanged from prior incarnation?). If the owners a reading: warm dimmed lighting, a few coloured lanterns, tea lights, - bit of ambience without any need for great expense. Other than that, great stuff. If nothing else, we?ll be deliveroo regulars.

Ditto all of the above,

Went for the first time today with our little ones and the food was superb and the children love it - the children?s menu is great value. Great sushi, tempura, gyoza, teriyaki and katsu and the prices are very good.

We will most definitely return - a very nice new addition to the area.

We had a great meal here last night.

Delicious and very reasonably priced.

We will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu!

ETA: They have a Facebook page with the menu on, but the only website I could find currently only has photos and testimonials.

I guess Deliveroo also has the menu, but couldn't access it at the moment as they are closed.

Weirdly (I think) this seems to be a bit of a thing at the moment.

I don't understand why, but there you go!

It would seem they do not currently have their own Website, ??

At least I have not been able to find one through a Google search.

ETA there is a link https://monkatsu.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral

Perhaps this is because they rely on fresh ingredients and the menu may be subject to variation.

small buisneses don't always have the time or staff to regularly update a website.

I only need to see online menu's when the restaurant's name gives no indication as to the type of cuisine served

Also if you're local pop down the road and have a look at the menu in their window.

    • Now it can be true that it will be easy to find people who believe either of those things, that doesn't make both those things true  Objectively - a situation is handled very differently by two different governments. If some people decide to say "proof they are all the same" then we should be pointing out that that is wrong - not hand waving it away as something that people can choose to believe or not believe If the people who want to believe "they are all the same" have some better idea - eg Reform? - then they will have to have to explain how that party is packed with criminals so how does that improve things. "They are all the same" is usually code for "I don't really want to think about anything, I just want what I want" that, and whilst I find him infuriating in many matters, I can't see Starmer of all people reversing this decision.
