Nouv Hair-let - can anyone explain the name? (Lounged)

Recommended Posts

This has been bugging me since we moved here. It's a hairdressers on Uplands Road, and I've become obsessed with trying to work out whether the name is some kind of pun. I am too embarrassed to go in and ask in case I'm missing an obvious reference. Put me out of my misery, someone!
I used to play water polo with an Afrikaans guy whose name was Isaak (which is Afrikaans for Isaac). Anyway the traditional way of abbreviating the name is: ?Sakie ? which is pronounced ?Sucky?. The problem was (or still is I suppose) that his surname was De Kok.

    • You used to be able to stay at the Salvation Army Training College by Denmark Hill for very little (like a hall of residence; not a homeless hostel!).  You have to sign something to say you will not bring in or consume alcohol.  Iirc they served breakfast too. And yes The Dog is much better than it used to be.
    • It should be fairly straightforward once you put in your email address - if it's trying to coax you into paying to subscribe that's just the way substack is set up as a default - you have to click on the 'free' box to avoid it. Though everyone is welcome to pay if they want!
    • navigating around and through some of the recent posts over the last few days and weeks here is becoming reminiscent of having to tread really carefully to avoid the many unexpected pitfalls just waiting to swallow you up, from a Victorian monologue that made no sense to a modern day blogger who prefers stacks. Always used the term stack in relation to burgers, but never a blog, where and what is the connection? I really have no idea.
