Riverside councillor elected in by-election


Anood Al-Samerai was elected last night (13 December) as a councillor for the Riverside ward.


The results were


Anood Al-Samerai - Liberal Democrat 1,114

Cormac Hollingsworth - Labour 691

Rahoul Bhansali - Conservative 260

Amanda Penfold - Green 122

Fernando Grace - UKIP 49



Ballot papers counted: 2,248 (12 rejected)


Yesterday's by-election was prompted by the resignation of Paul Baichoo (Liberal Democrat). The turnout was a very respectable 24.7 per cent - higher than expected for a December single-seat by-election
