In need of some advice and ideas. Our little one is 8 months and seemed to have develop some kind of sick bug last Thursday night. The doctor recommended I stopped solids and gave him breast milk. having tried this for 2 days he was still sick but not as much. He is now back on gentle solids but not eating much but is consistently being forcefully sick at about 6 every night. Real exocist style vomiting where it appears that most of the food and milk he gas managed are coming up. It is horrid although he doesn't seem unwell otherwise and is smiling straight after like nothing happened. I have been giving him really easy to digest foods like baby rice, baby pasta with cheese sauce etc and I can't seem to find a pattern that links what he has eaten and him being poorly?

Am going to take him back to the doctor this week but wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar. His nappies are still wet etc so know he isn't dehydrated but am starting to get worried. Thank goodness for wooden floors in our house!

Has he got a cold, teething?

My ds1 would always vomit during the night when he had a cold ( mucous in his tummy) and acidic teething saliva can have the same effect

My dd otoh vomited off and on for days when she had a kidney infection (though she was clearly unwell)

I would see the dr again

When mine was sick before Christmas (search for the thread as it went on a bit!) I found it was dairy that she was struggling with and once I stopped any dairy for 2 days and stuck to basic purees she wouldn't vomit. Gave her tummy the chance to settle and then re-introduced milk...easier said than done obviously as they get very hungry for milk in the night. It's funny bcoz 3 GPs told me to stick with small amounts of milk and yoghurt but the A&E doc said it's too heavy for sensitive tummy. Not sure if this will work for you as mine also came off some antibiotics that were possibly making her sick too so perhaps a combination!

Poor thing, it's horrid seeing them poorly :(

Thanks for your responses

It's really strange as no cold or teeth issues at the moment....just lots of sick! Really can't work it out.

Jennyh was wondering the same as the doctors advice differs from what others have told me. Today I have fed him pur?e without milk and cheese etc and give him breast milk and sips of water....so far no sick do fingers crossed. It's horrid feeling so helpless to do anything for them.

Thanks do much for your posts it's nice just to know other people have experienced similar things!

I am not sure if it helps but we've certainly had the vomiting bug in our house and a lot of our friends with babies have too. There's good and bad news - good news is that it tends to pass in a few days, bad news is that grown ups catch it too. Good luck!
There are lots of bugs going round, my 2.5 yr old has just had a horrendous sick bug. My 11 month old had a couple of weeks of projectile vomiting not long ago, always after her 7pm feed. It wasn't every night, but seemed to be the nights she'd had dairy at tea time. If she'd had egg (with milk and butter), cheese, or yogurt at around 5, then had a whole bottle of formula just before bed, it would often come back up. So I've laid off too much dairy at tea and it seems to have calmed down a bit? Am sure it will sort itself soon.

Does anyone still do the BRAN diet for reintroducing food after a tummy bug? It's something that has stood me in good stead through my years of dealing with vomiting children.

B= brown bread (no butter or anything else initially)

R= Brown rice

A= Apples (best skinned & grated intitially

N= Aaargh, can't remember, 'nana's (ba) possibly?

Anyway by introducing thee foods back into their diet first it seemed to aid and speed recovery.

Thanks everyone, feeling much more positive today. No vomiting or changing beds at 3 in the morning and LO ate well today and actually opened his mouth seeking food (unheard of for him even without a bug). I love the advice and am giving him simple non dairy meals, breads, fruits etc. He seems to know what he wants and has no interest in anything sweet at all (also unusual).

Not sure my doctors advice to just give him milk again for 2 days was great as I now have complete oversupply but nevermind.

I may now endeavour to catch up on the washing which until today had been defeating me. Thanks
