Chick
Dear Book clubbers, I recently went to an art project in central London. Two well known authors, Michel Faber & Mick Jackson, had recorded themselves reading one short story each which were then recorded onto a vinyl long playing record. Both the stories were excellent and well read, both very imaginative with a nice twist at the end. I have converted both to CD?s and if you would like one post me a message or email me and I will bring copies to the next meeting. Hoots & Haggis, Chick. Chick
Hi everybody,Change of venue for next month, we are back at the Clockhouse. They have a room upstairs which is ideal for a book group. I have booked for the 17th April. It was very good of The Draft House to accommodate us but the acoustics weren?t favourable for a book group discussion. A very big thanks to the Draft House for their hospitality. I am looking into a possible visit to The Ritzy this Saturday.CheersChick. Chick
The Wednesday night book club will be giving out books on behalf or World Book NightAt the Clockhouse on Saturday 20th April from 6.00pm. The book is The Secret Scripture by Sebastian BarryAbout the BookNearing her one-hundredth birthday, Roseanne McNulty faces an uncertain future, as the Roscommon Regional Mental hospital where she's spent the best part of her adult life prepares for closure. Over the weeks leading up to this upheaval, she talks often with her psychiatrist Dr Grene, and their relationship intensifies and complicates. Told through their respective journals, the story that emerges is at once shocking and deeply beautiful. Refracted through the haze of memory and retelling, Roseanne's story becomes an alternative, secret history of Ireland's changing character and the story of a life blighted by terrible mistreatment and ignorance, and yet marked still by love and passion and hope. Chick
Greetings book clubbers,Hope you are enjoying Middlesex. The next meeting is in The Clockhouse in the upstairs bar on 22nd May. It?s being used until 8.00pm so I suggest we meet at 8.15. Some of you have suggested the one big long table fragmented the group. The Clockhouse aren?t averse to us reorganising the tables to make two smaller groups of about six/seven as long as we put it back together. I would be grateful for your thoughts on this. I will check with Lisa as well. Hoots & humbug.ChickPS please do let me know your thought/suggestions. Thanks.
