We had a temp change of venue. I had checked it out and was told it would be quiet but when I got there it was mobed, no where to sit and very loud. Then it started to rain very heavily so we had to get a taxi to the Clock.

Poppy,

Sorry have just seen your post. Please do join in, we meet in the Clockhouse which is at the bottom of Barry Rd., where it meets Peckham Rye. Next meeting is 10th October at about 8.00pm and the book is Anna Karenina. But don?t let that put you off. We have two months to read this one.

Cheers

Chick

Yes please do. Keep an eye on the forum for Novembers meeting, I am having trouble with my mailing list.

See you in November.

Bye the way there is no attempt to finish in October, it's a big book!

How are people doing with Anna K?

I am on page 128 and am enjoying it. To start with, there were just too many words and no sign of Anna. Now that she and Vronsky have met and a few sparks are flying, I have found some traction with the plot and characters.

Levin needs a slap and needs to man-up. It is one hell of a brick though. Only another 680 pages to go ...

Good meet this evening. Thanks for organising Chick.

The next Curry Club meeting is on 24 October at Tandoori Nights, all welcome. If you search for "Curry Club" you will find the thread.

We will probably meet at the EDT at about 7.30-ish and eat at about 8.30ish.

Please come along, maybe post on the Curry Club thread or here so that I can book a table.

Looking forward to the FB page!!

Greetings book clubbers.

Thanks to everyone who came along last night for another superb meeting. A big welcome to Jacinda & Jessie, hope you both enjoyed your first meeting.

The book for November is still Anna Karenina which everyone seems to be enjoying much to most people?s surprise. Most have just scratched the surface apart from Michael who is half way through.

The venue is the Clockhouse and the date is 14th November, 7.30 to 8.00ish start time.

At the next meeting we can choose a venue for our Christmas meal.

Carina has set up a Face book group but I am not sure how you join, but do try.

Also check this month?s curry club.

Hoots & porridge,

Chick

  • 2 weeks later...

Greetings book clubbers,

Just a reminder that we meet on 14th November in two weeks. Been a long one this time with 5 weeks between meetings but a welcome since the book is so massive. Hope you are all ploughing through and enjoying it as I am, much to my surprise.

Had a great play which Carina organised but couldn?t attend.

Michael, maybe we could combine our Christmas meal with the curry club? Just a thought. No news from Alexia but will let you know.

I will attempt a mass email today.

Och Aye,

Chick.

PS dont forget to be friend us on facebook, see link above.

14/11 is good for me Chick. Page 600ish at the moment. I too am enjoying it.

Also - a combined Curry Club/ Book Club Christmas meal is good. Curry Club have identified Wednesday 12 December as the date with the Mirash Tandoori as the venue. We will meet in the EDT at 7.30 and sit down in the Mirash at 8.30.

Here is a link to World Book Night 2013. I cant say I find it very inspiring, Andy Mc Nab, it'll be Dan Brown next.

Having had a look there are about five books I would consider and will make notes tomorrow. In the meantime please have a look your self and we can discuss on Wednesday.

Unlike others, he communicates well, turns up when he says he will and gets things done to a good standard even when unexpected problems crop up. I have been left by other plumbers with half solutions before. Aria commits to a job and gets it done properly.
