Family friendly day of music - Sunday 22 January - DHFC - Under 12s FREE!

Recommended Posts

In case you've missed it elsewhere, I thought it would be a good idea to put a thread in the Family Room.

The Goose Is Out! is organising a fundraising day for the new Dulwich Community Garden, to be built in the grounds of Dulwich Hospital. There will be live music from 2pm to 9pm - see below for the line-up.

Everybody involved is giving their time for free, including all the musicians, and all proceeds from tickets, the cake stall, the raffle and the auction will go directly to the garden.

We have planned the day on the assumption that probably if you have younger children you may want to come earlier, but children are welcome to stay till the end. There will be room for them to run around, and there will be cakes to bribe them with ( joke :) )

In order not to exclude anybody because of cost, tickets are only ?5 for the whole day and children under 12 are free! We hope though that if you can afford more than a fiver, you will donate more for this worthy cause.

The bar will be open all day for the sale of alcoholic (including real ale) and non-alcoholic drinks, and there will be hot food and hot drinks available too.

Once you have your ticket you can come and go as you please, but do note that if you arrive late without a ticket and the venue is full, we will not be able to let you in, so if you want to be sure of seeing the later acts including Wizz, we do suggest you buy your tickets early - see below if you'd like to buy them before the day.

Here's the running order - please note that it may be subject to change if there are circumstances outside our control. Each set lasts 45 minutes and there will be a 15 minute break between each act with DJing from our very own and very lovely FlapJackDavey :)

2pm - Rob Anderson And The Wayne Drury Project

3pm - Fran McGillivray & Mike Burke

4pm - THE DULWICH UKULELE CLUB

5pm - Joe Wilkes

6pm - The John McLean Band

7pm - WIZZ JONES

8pm - The No Frills Band

The online booking fee is only 50p, but if you would rather donate that money to the community garden, advance tickets are also available from Health Matters on Lordship Lane.

Oh, and in case of misunderstandings - the day is inside under cover in a nice warm room at DHFC (next to Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill) and NOT outside in the community garden itself (garden festivities are planned for the Summer, we understand :) )

There will also be a raffle with fabulous prizes, and a sealed bids auction with even more fabulous items to bid for!

Just wanting to get this day known by as many people as possible, so we can raise as much money for the community garden as possible :)

Do come and bring your children - it will be a great day!

And one of the sealed-bid auction items is a year's family membership at Hamlets Health Club - worth ?1000!!!!

Thanks everybody who came, we hope you all enjoyed it.

The community garden made over ?1500 altogether, including ticket sales, which was brilliant.

Those of you with kids, would you like us to put on further Sunday afternoon indoor music events? When we did a survey a year or so back nobody seemed interested in this, but that was possibly because the people who would have been interested were not at the evening event we gave out the survey at (grammar)!

Would love to hear about more afternoon music events. I think it's brilliant to be able to take kids to live music.

And is the best option for mummy and daddy seeing live music too (which we love) without paying a fortune in babysitters.

We'd obviously need to choose the music quite carefully as it needs to be loud enough for nobody to worry about kids running around and making a noise.

There are other practical issues, not least that we have a very full schedule of gigs and Singarounds already this year, plus various other community events, and we'd like at least a few weekends free to see the grandchildren (who don't live in London)!!!!

I'll have a word with the other half of The Goose aka FlapJackDavey and we'll see what we can do. Maybe we'll try one afternoon and see how many people come. It would obviously need to be worthwhile for the musicians.

There are three community events coming up this year which have music in the afternoon and which children can come to:

Sunday 13 May is the Dulwich Festival Fair on Goose Green, when we will be providing music all afternoon, as last year.

Sunday 3 June is the Crystal Palace Road Street Party, ditto - all are welcome even if you don't live in Crystal Palace Road (just hope we don't get torrential rain this year :)))

And sometime probably in August, there is the Aquarius Festival at the golf course, but we don't have a date or details for that yet. We have had an indoor stage there for the past two years but there will be an outdoor stage as well - thus catering for all weather eventualities (and musical tastes)!

:)-D

ETA: Musicians for all the above are still to be confirmed - but they'll be good!

Sue,

The Sunday event was fantastic- such talented musicians. It really was a great afternoon for both our children and us. Just like nunheadmum says, it's hard to get out in the evening, so live music events in the day our whole family can enjoy are very welcome.

The cake was great too!
