New Crossing Lordship Lane

Recommended Posts

I see work has started on what I have been told is a New Crossing.

This is sited by the Bishop Pub at the Junction Lordship Lane / East Dulwich Road.

There is a Box Junction there with traffic / Buses turning.

Because of this and the Busstop after the Box Junction and the Roundabout, traffic is

virtualy permantly backed up there.

This would mean that if there is a crossing there, traffic would tend to back up over the crossing.

Or ? when the lights of the crossing were green for traffic to proceed, there will be no where for

the traffic to go.

Another Brilliant Southwark Council Design feature.

No doubt they will install a Camera to catch drivers who get stuck across the Crossing when the lights turn Red.

In fairness, people have been asking for a crossing on LL for years - and the plans were publicised on here by James Barber some time ago. Crossing ED Road there is a bit of a lottery, with buses coming from all directions and cars accelerating hard from LL to slip through a small gap in oncoming traffic. Personally, I'm happy with anything that makes LL more pedestrian friendly.

My wife mentioned the problems with the traffic yesterday and that it took 20 minutes on the bus to travel one stop towards Goose Green because of the roadworks. Someone needs to get the council to move the bus stop by the works to a temporary location and create a no-parking zone near the works to prevent the bottle-neck that seems to be being created during the day. My wife tried calling the Highways Office yesterday but just got passed around their office with no one wanting to take responsibility.

If James Barber (or any other local councillor) is reading this then grateful if they can have a sensible word with Southwark.

Better get used to it! It seems that it will take up to 3 months before it is finished. Then there will be another crossing up by the co-op. 1 crossing is fine and needed, 2 is just daft. But I guess that is Lib Dem for you.

Eddie, Southwark has been run by LABOUR since 2010.

At last - There is now a crossing at every Major Road between me and Springers Wine Bar. I can now get there safely and more importantly walk home safely after 1 glass of wine. Trouble is Springers (Wine bar) is closed and a Trendy Meat Shop has replaced it. When will they stop closing trendy wine bars. ?

Maybe, but it will still make it a lot easier to cross the road opposite the Bishop without taking your life in your hands each time :)

Hi DulwichFox,

I think your fears are unfounded. I've seen an itemised report of issued tickets by category and I don't recall seeing any tickets numbers for that type of issue.

We will have two crossings - one outside the Coop which is clearly them ost obvious required one. The second from The Bishop is partly ot help cross Lordship Lane but partly to put breaks inthe traffic allowing vehicles in and out of East Dulwich Grove and to make EDG crossing easier for pedestrians. Long story but the original proposal to have traffic lights at that junction would have meant much less parking which ED cllrs couldn't support to the degree required versus the 'benefits'. I proposed a zebra crossing to break up the flow. After several years council officers/contractors came up with a Puffin crossing and agreed probably the only way to achieve the aim without signalising the junction etc. Feel free to call me for fuller explanation.

Hi eddie,

I think the two will work well and actually are intended to achieve different things. See above also feel free to call me about them.

Hi Ipool,

I'll ask officers abotu your suggestion. Thank you.

Hi TownleyGreen,

Yes Labour have led the council since May 2010 but these crossings were started some years ago. I doubt Labour would have wanted to stop these crossings. Also a lot of background with officers leaving the council and compliants by ED cllrs upheld etc. Very sad its taken so long to happen but we're getting there.

The Artfull Dogger. Haha. I needed that on a cold Monday morning.

    • I'm with Octopus, and I have no idea what to do either. Finding it hard to get my head around it all. They seem to have a 15 month fix with no exit fees, however I'm not sure if I exited whether I could just revert to whatever I'm on at the moment, or whether I might find that whatever that is might no longer be an available option. I tend to just heat whatever room I'm in and/or use a heated throw. And use the microwave where possible unless I've got an oven full of stuff which I can then freeze most of.

    • ??? I feel really weak and  dizzy, I don't think it's a good idea at all to be out. And my vitamin D level is actually much too high. Last time I had blood tests, my  GP told me to stop taking vitamin tablets.  But thanks for your concern! I appreciate the advice, but I only came on here to see if other people had similar symptoms!
