Non emptying of recycling bins

guy a couple of doors along from me had his recycling bin ignored this morning.

Only thing I can percieve as a reason is the cardboard boxes in it had not been squashed/flattened before he put them in the blue bin.

I think they are, TED. There was an article in Southwark Life magazine offering small blue bins to community groups where they could grow plants inside them.

My kitchen bin hasn't been emptied in about two weeks.

I'm really shocked by this state of affairs.

I wonder whether they've got the bin equivalent of GP locums on at the moment.

They arrived later than usual this morning and made more of a mess than usual. The mess wasn't enough to complain to the council about, just mildly annoying when I had to spend time clearing it up on my way out.

We recycle only a small amount of waste food and use one of the small bins. It is difficult to know where to put this bin in the front garden on collection day because it gets hidden by the blue or green bins when they are emptied. We have been leafleted by the council about putting bins out on the pavement and told that binmen will remove and return bins to front garden. As a result our small bin very often is not emptied. Yesterday I placed it prominently, and unfortunately in full sun, on top of the large green bin hoping that it would catch the eye of the binmen. Today it is still sitting unemptied, again in full sun, but what can we do? Told the council on line this morning. The smell from mackerel skins is horrendous so hope they come soon.

Are you not supposed to put the food recycling green bags in with the garden waste? I have put mine in there and if there is no garden waste then the bin men lean in and take the bags out. I have the smaller bin inside my house.

My little brown bin stimks and is full of flies and weevils. Its outside. Cant recycle food until weather gets colder again.

Surely the foxes can get inside the small bins if left outside?

To clarify: We don't need a garden waste collection as we have a compost bin in the back garden. We only have a very small amount of waste food. We keep the small brown bin (larger than a kitchen caddy) at the back until the evening before the collection is due. Although we have a regular foxy visitor he/she has not managed to raid the bin as it is well barricaded.

Just feel that choosing a small bin for aesthetic reasons is being penalised!

Would it be possible to put the small brown bin on top of one of your larger containers so that it's more clearly visible, if that is the issue?

I have a small brown bin as well, plus two of the "old" blue containers for paper etc recycling.

I have a recess for my bins built into my garden wall, and I have my (smaller) green wheelie at the back,

the blue containers in front of it, and the small brown bin on top of them.

I haven't recently had a problem with the brown bin not being emptied, though it does tend to get flung over my plants when it has been emptied .....

So you can put all clippings, and branches, leaves etc. in your compost?

Yes we can mostly. We stack leaves and branches in the corner in a feeble attempt to discourage the fox. We still have an old green recycling bag and have had this emptied once or twice with no problems, by hanging it on the gate

kk, I've the same thing happen to me - outside small brown bin not emptied for a few weeks in a row. I reported each missed collection online and got a nice email back, explaining that ours had been missed by a new crew, because we are a house sandwiched between two small blocks of flats, who aren't part of the kitchen waste scheme - even though it was in full view. Been fine ever since. Worth reporting as they do add a note onto the weekly round schedules.

Why not dump your small bin's contents into someone else's bin on collection day after they have left their bin resdy for collection. I know my neighbours wouldn't mind... why would anyone? Up goes the top, in goes your few bits or green bag down goes the top and you take your small bin back inside. Time start to finish a few seconds unless you find someone to chat with.
