social cycle ride Saturday Dec 22nd

Get fit for Christmas. Last opportunity to breathe fresh(ish) air before the Queens Speech. It will be the usual easy-paced two-hour ride on mostly quiet streets and paths so the physical assault won't be too demanding.

The ride will start in Peckham Square, SE15 5JR, under the Arch if it's raining or on the sickle-shaped bench at the bottom of the steps if it's not. Pic of the Arch including the bench is attached.

The ride will be heading to the Rapha upmarket cycling clothes plus Cafe outfit in Spitalfields Market. https://oldspitalfieldsmarket.com/shops-and-stalls/rapha. If you are looking for a present for the cyclist in your life this would be a good (but v expensive) place to look. I see it serves "the finest food and drink". Everything Rapha is the finest with prices to match. However the refreshment stop should not break the bank.

Amanda leading. The group last rode this way on December 23rd last year so it is in danger of turning into a Christmas tradition. The route will probably be similar to last year and go outward via Burgess Park, Quietway 1 and Southwark Bridge, then past the Guildhall and Liverpool St station. No route map I'm afraid.

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for safer cycling in London. These rides are not part of a campaign they are fun. Bruce wants to us to cycle for health which is endearing but doesn't reduce the fun. Like everything we do they are free and open to everyone everywhere.

No need to book but for more info you can text Bruce on 07729 279 945.

    • Just heard 250 houses. Substation fault in Lacon Road. Hopefully may be fixed tonight 😭
    • Sorry to hear this - I hope they get the power back on soon for those affected on a night like tonight.
    • Some houses in Ulverscroft Road and I gather Whateley and Fellbrigg have a power cut. Any other roads?
    • Agree and that is due to the echo-chamber nature of social media algorithms. Previously racists and other idiots wouldn't read stuff in traditional media that echoed their warped mindset but now they feel empowered because they think everyone thinks this and can easily reach those that do share the same ideology. Cast your mind back to how Blackberry Messenger was blamed for its role in the London riots back in 2011. We now have that a thousand times worse.
