Moving into a property guardian flat with two trashed and desolate "gardens" , would like to make wildlife and people-friendly spaces, anything I can plant or old garden implements I can repair would be welcome.

I would wait til spring,firstly to see what grows there....

also this is not the right time of the year,for concrete, as it won't set,as too damp,for example.....

maybe just do a bit of tidying up & start planting in Plastic pots(frostsafe)......

yes indeed, sound advice thanks, Apparently one can plant only tulips, blueberries and one type of broad bean at the moment??!

I should try to work out if there is anything alive in there before zealous clearing. To be frank it looks pure Mad Max landscape currently but perhaps if I post a pic here an eagle eyed horticulturist might be able to spot if there's anything that might one day flower. Would love to encourage some birds as this is in E16 which appears to be 95 per cent concrete and I didn't see even a single mangy sparrow when walking around.

Any perennials may not appear till quite late next year, so be careful about poking about below the surface!
