Hi Minkey, no she doesn't have eczema we know this as we recently had skin scrapings done plus her pooh examined to find out what was the cause of the allergy. We tried various types of protein and brands of food over periods of 6wks but in the end found it was just a wheat allergy. It's a gastro problem, she has had pancreatitis and is sick if she eats wheat or beef/lamb. She is now on Burns Pork & Potato and it's been the best thing for her. Our behaviorist rang several brands of dog food and it was the only one that let him look around they factory at how the food is made. There is a lot of crap in some brands of dog food!

Her skin is still a bit of a problem but the vet thinks it's environmental! The shampoo helps, we are still trying to get to the bottom of that one. Think we will have to do a full panel blood test to determine the cause, could be anything from dust mites to pollen!! I'm waiting for the freezer to empty so I can stuff her teddies in there, apparently that kills off the mites, but my boyfriend said if he comes home to a freezer full of dog teddies he'll have me committed!!

Ah poor thing. Sounds like you're managing it well. Thomas had skin problems and turned out to be allergic to fleas and storage mites, possibly something else in his immediate environment as well, because as soon as we moved to a new place, his skin cleared up. I'm not recommending that as a solution though, lol..

Your behaviourist sounds really involved, good man. Glad you've managed to find something that's working. Teddies in the freezer could be alarming to anyone who finds them who doesn't know why they're there, lol - my OH reckons I've turned the living room into Cat Disney, and he does have a point ;-)

Ah, we must share the same pet-pleasing gene: I have a cat tree, crinkly tube, feather sticks, balls, paper bags, and various charity shop mini-teddy things sprayed with catnip and attached to bits of string, cheap to construct and the cats love them.

mmmmm: I did check out Lilys Kitchen and it looks good food but bit pricey for me with two cats in the house, one of whom is still a kitten and wolfs everything in sight.

Took the older cat into the vets for the second part of her jabs today. Was pleased he was also a proponent of the high animal protein/low carb foods, and he even mentioned Bozita as being high meat content.

For anyone contemplating feeding raw, I found this information - extremely useful:

Gosh that's hardcore - the woman was recommending that you feed your cat hamsters and guinea pigs, because 'that's what we all strive for'....

There's a visceral, primal, feral, depraved undertone to these supposed 'cat lovers'. I shall never look upon cat ladies the same way again: butchering Gerby in a bloodstained petticoat to feed Tiddles.

;-)

Indeed we are a scary lot.. A german friend has described to me how to run a small-scale mouse farm which involves taking the fattest each day and gently euthanizing them before feeding to the cat. But I've balked at the killing jar.

    • Tennis got really popular over the COVID period and all the clubs round here ended up with long waiting lists.   Put yourself on the list for all of them anyway, things might move faster than you think, definitely for Dulwich Sports as they may be about to get planning permission to build new courts.  Ask about off-peak membership if you work from home, it's often much easier to get and some clubs will give priority to off-peak members when full places come up.   In the meantime, most of the clubs on your list offer group and individual coaching to non-members with a guest fee.   And sign up for local tennis leagues which organises matches at all levels in the local parks - there's a league for Kennington and Brockwell Parks which is really good and a slightly gentler one for Belair and Dulwich Parks.  I did this for a couple of years and had a lot of fun.   https://www.lta.org.uk/compete/adult/local-tennis-leagues/
    • I used Aria on Monday to solve some plumbing issues including a leaky outdoor tap.  Excellent service and a really nice guy. I'll be using him again no doubt.
    • We needed a switch replaced - small job but necessary. Terry responded very quickly to our request and was prompt to arrive, polite and professional and completed the job quickly and without fuss.
    • Does it need to be a tennis club specifically? JAGS has a lot of courts.
