Please forgive me asking about schools but I am running out of time. I know it is very late (applications deadline 15 Jan) and some of you will think 'she should have thought about it earlier' etc. I thought I did because our child has a place secured at a local private school but I am still not convinced if I want to go down the private route so I'm going to apply for the state ones anyway.

We are right in the middle between DKH and Goose Green (and Bellenden is pretty close too) and I thought Dog Kennel Hill should be my top choice, followed by St Johns and St Clements, but having seen the latest tables and stats I am not sure anymore! Also there is many of you who seem very pleased with GG, and the stats are excellent, which makes me even more confused. I will do my best to visit GG school before 15 Jan but as I don't know any parents whose kids go to DKH or GG (or Bellenden?) can I ask you to post your views here, or PM me please?

- why are you pleased with the school?

- are there any negatives/room for improvement?

- would you put the school as your first choice?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Milsa,

I've posted my opinions on the school before - in this thread for example http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,793812,793812#msg-793812 so do go there to find out what I like about the school. When we applied just over 3 years ago, the school was my number 2 choice - if I was applying now, it would be number 1.

Good luck!

The next Goose Green school tour will take place on Tuesday 10th January. No need to book a place just turn up at the reception area shortly after 9am. The tour will be conducted by either the Head Teacher Sharron Marland or the Deputy Head and Year 6 teacher Toni Robinson. Doubtless you have seen our excellent sats results; the 3rd year on year rise in attainment and we are now one of the highest achieving schools locally. Come and have a look at what else we have to offer.
Just a quick message to say big thanks for all PMs - I will reply individually, possibly tomorrow. Very helpful!!! I'd be more than happy to hear from more parents so pls PM me if you have a child in GG or DKH or if you are considering applying and why. Many thanks again!
Big thanks for all PMs again! I've just been to see Goose Green school and .... like many parents who were there I am also massively impressed! The Head Teacher is fantastic, seems like her strong leadership and drive has changed the school completely. The kids look happy and the classes/lessons nicely structured. I think Im going to put GG as my first choice. Quite a turn around considering I didn't even think of the school two weeks ago... :)

And we would be delighted to have you...

Thank you for the feedback Millsa, we know that we are on to a good thing and we think our head is fabulous, glad to see others think so too.

Hello all

I've got in touch with the OP but no response yet and time is running out.

We're in exactly the same position and location I think. My husband and I can't decide - one of us likes GG the other likes DKH. Would any of you mind resending your original PM's to me? I'd really appreciate some other opinions. Our other options are St Johns, Bellenden, Lyndhurst and we can't find a 6th we'd be happy with... so worried all round.

Thank very much in advance

What about Bessemer fidgetsmum? I know parents who have children there who are very happy, the ofsted and sats are both good and it sounds like they are having another bulge class so likely to get a place if you wanted it. Sounds like your end of ED should be fine for school places with Bellenden and Bessemer taking extra classes.

    • Place your on-screen cursor over the name of the sender, the sender's actual email address should appear, often with scammers it comes up with  a very unbusinesslike address. Failing that, you should be able to speak to Virgin and ask if legit, Microsoft on the other hand I wouldn't bother trying to contact...
    • Bit hard to do that in the middle of the night without causing even more disturbance to other neighbours than the original barking! Are you sure you need to provide an address? There must be loads of instances where it's very hard to trace the source of a noise, and I certainly wouldn't want to be roaming around by myself in the middle of the night trying to track it down! It does need to be triple glazing, not double. I was told that it's what they use for office windows at Heathrow, but I've no idea if that's true. It doesn't make the room completely soundproof, but it does make a huge difference. There must be no gaps anywhere, even very thin ones, where noise could get through.
