Is the 'N' is just the End of Crystal Palace Taver'n'

Fox.

It sounds like the new lot at the CPT are doing good things, so good for you.

I just hope hope hope that whatever else you do, you keep the 2 seperate bars.

I've ben told they're going to have an outdoor smoking area out back in the yard, which seems a good idea if there is shelter, and apparently the litchen will be upstairs, which seems the only viable solution to me.

I guess no one wanted to spend the money to convert a commercial kitchen upstairs (it's against regulations to use the residential kitchen to prepare food for customers, a friend of mine almost got shut down a few years back for trying to be nice and giving the customers some food on the bar).

There is ample room upstairs for such a kitchen though.

It's the movement of the door and the bar that the new owners have indicated is going to happen that worries me. If so where to and how? Will it all be in one space with one big square bar in the middle or will they retain the two bars? Would be nice to get some feedback from the new management to let us know what's going to happen.

You have to admit Jah, the current location of the entrance and especially the main bar isn't ideal.

I can understand why they've done it originally with the split bar concept, but people waiting to be served at the main bar get in the way of people coming in.

Thinking aloud...with it being a corner site, the logical place to put the entrance would be on the corner. If that's not possible then the Crystal Palace Road elevation would make sense, just take out one of the large window panels.

The snug bar would probably go and the main bar get pushed back towards it, with back of house/ancillary behind, maybe some new toilets. The existing entrance could then become a sole staff/goods entrance, creating clearly defined public drinking and staff serving areas either side of the new main bar...time will tell :)-D

... and there are no customers. If they don't change it, surely it'll just be a turd-polishing exercise? People so often seem to want change, so long as nothing changes. Therein lies yet another pub closure ? to add to the list of 1300 pubs that called a final "time, please, gents" in 2010. I wish the new guys luck, they have the guts to buy out a pub in a recession against a bleak backdrop. And before you say it, I don't work for them, know them or have any affiliation whatsoever other than just wanting another decent boozer in the area. Who cares if the CAMRA beards are ruffled?
cos things change...

Yeah, then a few years pass, and everyone wants a traditional pub again, but it's too late, because it was gutted. Look at The Uplands.

I think everyone is agreed that a nice pub would be a good thing herrd, and everyone agrees that something needs to be done to bring in custom (food, better toilets ect).

The disagreement seems to be that some people seem to relish the thought of the place being entirely gutted, whilst others would like to see it keep the 2 bars, which a lot of people find to be the best thing about it, 2 pubs in 1, depending on what you fancy that evening.

R_D, There used to be an entrance on the corner, but what with the raised patio, I guess it would be a pain. The current entrance used to be a little off lisense cubicle. And believe it or not, it was divided in to 3 bars not 2, but that was before my time, or at least when I was very very young.

Just met the new guys next door at the CPT - they seem nice enough and keen to turn the place in to a 'franklins' style place which could only be a good thing. It's up to us as locals to make this place what we want it to be. For me a great local that serves good beer and good food can only be an improvement - we have loads of places on the lane showing sport on screens so let's encourage them to make this pub the perfect place to head for a proper chilled out few drinks and decent grub rather than another loud sports bar. Here's hoping for a new local with a truly mixed clientele of old school and newbies mixing it up to keep a proper pub alive.

I wouldn't say the Lane has loads of places that show sport at all. I may be wrong, but as far as I recall only the EDT and the Mag do - Black Cherry, Bishop, Palmerston, Adventure, Franklins and the Plough don't.

Best thing about the CPT at the moment is the 3pm Premiership kick-offs they show occasionally. I hope they keep that.
