Change is not always a bad thing and normally for the best - if things were that great the owner would have kept it. A community pub only works if peolpe actually use it. Lets hope some of these people who have spent so much of there time worrying about what might happen actually embrace it, give it a chance and actually use it not stand from a far and criticise. ANYONE can do that. Considering how many people who have written about this little boozer are so great in numbers, I have never seen more than a couple of people in at any time recently in there (although admittedly don't go in alot too) so the majority of people on these forum cant actually be even using the place. Its the same people who moan about their local Post Office shutting are normally the ones who get in their cars and drive to their out of town supermarket. They like the idea of having a nice little business on their doorstep but not making money or actually supporting it. I say, give it a go it could be a winner for the area. Now I am going to stop wasting my precious beer time on this and go and actually spend money in a bar and but a drink and not talk about it. :-) ril next time

The so-called folk singing is now held at other locations such as the Mag tomorrow evening (so please don't be there). It appears to have been quite a so-called success as the threads on EDF testify.


TracyLlew - what kind of so-called activities would you suggest are held at the new bar ? So-called trendy glib predictable piped music where no-one contributes to the evening ?

And what so-called contributions will you be making yourself in providing entertainments locally ?


If there's so-called events you don't like, just avoid them - you don't need to spoil it for others by recommending they're stopped.

Folk Singing would not be practical now it is one open space.


With Two bars people could sing and be enjoyed without being interupted by others

who don't want to listen to folk music.


With one open space do folk singers really expect the whole bar to remain silent while people sing. ??

She didn't 'recommend' anything of the kind - just said (passionately) how she hoped there would be none on a Sunday. That's potential-customer input.


Glad she brought it up because if there was folk singing on a Sunday I would avoid it too - doesn't mean I want folkies to stop having a "loverly time the day we went to Bangor..." (stop it!)

We'd love the opportunity to fill you in on the planned goings on in the lovely new Great Exhibition. Those concerned about the original period features will be pleased to know that the original bar has been kept but moved to one wall to open up the space and allow us to sere you good hearty British cuisine through the week and roasts on Sunday. We will be serving some of the best ales being brewed by the new London breweries, will have an exciting range of bottled drinks from around the world, we have a comprehensive list of great British gins and a brilliant wine list to include something for everyone. There is so much more to tell you about our plans and our two stage refurbishment. We'd love it if you could come down anytime from Thursday so we can tell you more and also get some ideas from you as to what you would like from a local community pub.

There has never at any stage been any suggestion that there would be "folk singing" in the new bar.


The old CPT was a very suitable place to hold our Singaround (which does not just consist of folk songs, by the way, and even if it did it seems that some people have a rather strange idea of folk music) as both the then owner and then manager agreed when we suggested holding one there.


The new bar is obviously completely unsuitable.

      Hi everyone, we are trying to finslise our decision for enrolling our son for 3+ from September and currently considering Dulwich Prep or Herne Hill. We like both and appreciate there is no right or wrong answer but what we like about HH is great focus on early years and also being coed. However if we can avoid the 7+ stress then prefer to do that. Dulwich Prep is closer but the difference is not significant. we know children are very active and busy in DP and they have great facilities, but unlike HH, we don’t know much about their focus on personal development and emotional intelligence, etc! Also not sure about long-term impact of being in boys only school. Difficult decision for us and we appreciate feedback from parents if you can share please.    thank you

      Yeah that was their old policy. Their new policy is to force you to have a water meter and if you refuse they put you on a punitively high tariff which effectively forces you to have one. I was doing well with my policy of polite resistance which was to say yes fine I'll have one fitted but then not actually book an appointment or cancel the appointments they made. But then I was persuaded that it would be much cheaper anyway.
