Looking for a challenge for 2019? If you?ve mastered the 5k distance and could do with help reaching the next level, our up coming 5k - 10k running course may be for you.

Following the success of our Couch to 5k Community Project earlier this year, we are moving onto a 10k group training course. Our 5k initiative saw us recruit over 50 non-runners, who took part in over 9 weeks of tailored running sessions which began with interval jogging sets, progressing session by session into longer periods of running at a suitable and sustainable pace for each individual.?Our objective for next year is to move participants who have the capacity to run 5k, to becoming competent 10k runners.

Our trainers are experienced coaches with the passion and drive to build fitter and healthier communities. Our work ethos has always been to create opportunities for local people to access safe and effective training that is also fun and engaging. Our style of coaching is educational with the aim of establishing a long lasting involvement in physical activity. We believe running to be one of the most accessible forms of exercise, but also one that can be improved with guidance. What better way to set yourself a challenge for the New Year?

This 8 week programme will enable runners to complete a 10k race, either for the first time, or be able to work with the principles of achieving greater results than previously attained. We will cover different running approaches such as steady pace long runs, interval and tempo runs, and demonstrate how these shuld fit into a well designed running program. We will also incorperate strength and conditioning exercises that benefit runners and as such one of the key areas will be centred around injury prevention. Our aim is to equip participants with the tools they need to develop which they can apply to future running goals.

Training begins Thursday 3rd January 2019, and will run weekly from 7pm-8pm until Thursday 21st February, Peckham Rye Park. The runners will be divided into intermediate level, those looking to move from 5k to 10k; and advance runners aiming to achieve faster run/race times. The project concludes with a group entry into the Richmond Park 10k Race on Saturday 23rd February 2019. This course is better suited to participants who can already run 5k. There is a small course registration fee of ?80 which will also cover the entry cost of the Richmond Park 10k race.

Deadline for entry is Friday 29th December 2018. Places are limited to 50 participants and is on a first come first served basis, so please don?t hesitate to apply. To secure your place please follow the link and fill a short application and we will be in touch within 48 hours.

    • Just heard 250 houses. Substation fault in Lacon Road. Hopefully may be fixed tonight 😭
    • Sorry to hear this - I hope they get the power back on soon for those affected on a night like tonight.
    • Some houses in Ulverscroft Road and I gather Whateley and Fellbrigg have a power cut. Any other roads?
    • Agree and that is due to the echo-chamber nature of social media algorithms. Previously racists and other idiots wouldn't read stuff in traditional media that echoed their warped mindset but now they feel empowered because they think everyone thinks this and can easily reach those that do share the same ideology. Cast your mind back to how Blackberry Messenger was blamed for its role in the London riots back in 2011. We now have that a thousand times worse.
