DulwichFox
Hi Good People of East Dulwich What to do with 'Rags'... Clothes and Textiles not suitable for Resale in charity shops. Can they be recycled... Green Fox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21046-recycling-old-rags-and-textiles/ Share on other sites
EmilyE
There's a big green bin for exactly what you describe outside the Mind shop at the top of Lordship Lane. Put all your textiles in a plastic bag and pop them in. I have a feeling there might also be one on Upland Road outside the corner shop near Darrell Road, but not 100% sure. DulwichFox
Thanks EmilyE Wasn't sure if the big green bins outside Mind Shop and the like were for decent clothes...for resale. Tarot
Rag rug making, and patchwork are a few of the things to recycle your old textiles, some schools use these methods in artand craft classes. Some turn them into blankets for relief areas or blankets for dog and cat homes .So if the rags are not too wasted consider these methods, if not bin them and they will be recycled into paper probably. Lost Yorkshire Man
Hi,Mrs LYM here... most charity shops can accept rag and actually make pretty good money from it. I know the Red Cross Shop in Forest Hill does and if the Mind shop has a bin that's great. Charity shops can rag anything - odd shoes, old dusters.. even pants. Just mark it clearly with 'rag' if you don't want a charity shop volunteer rooting through your expired smalls.... EmilyE
Don't think so, at least not exclusively. I've always put my rubbishy textiles in there, anyway...
