There's a big green bin for exactly what you describe outside the Mind shop at the top of Lordship Lane. Put all your textiles in a plastic bag and pop them in.

I have a feeling there might also be one on Upland Road outside the corner shop near Darrell Road, but not 100% sure.

Rag rug making,and patchwork are a few of the things to recycle your old textiles,some schools use these methods in art

and craft classes.

Some turn them into blankets for relief areas or blankets for dog and cat homes .

So if the rags are not too wasted consider these methods, if not bin them and they will be recycled into paper probably.

Mrs LYM here... most charity shops can accept rag and actually make pretty good money from it. I know the Red Cross Shop in Forest Hill does and if the Mind shop has a bin that's great. Charity shops can rag anything - odd shoes, old dusters.. even pants. Just mark it clearly with 'rag' if you don't want a charity shop volunteer rooting through your expired smalls....
