I was doing a bit of a Christmas dash through Bromley Glades today when I noticed an eyebrow threading booth type thing. Three ladies were all having their eyebrows done and I noticed that the women doing it were holding the about to be used spare thread in their mouths.

Now I am all for sharing my hubbies toothbrush from time to time and think nothing of taking a swig from my kids drinks etc but they are my nearest and dearest.

Is it really common practice to pay someone to wipe their spit on your eyebrows? Made me shudder.

What exactly do you think might happen?

I think any risk of anything being transmitted is minimal. You've got more chance of picking up a bug from the doors of public loos since some people don't wash hands even if you do.

From personal experience, they may hold the end of one piece in their mouths or break the thread with their teeth but when they wind it down to start threading, it's the middle (uncontaminated) of the thread that they use. Besides, the thread is only being used on the outside of the body, wrapped round a hair.

It's a bit different from sharing water bottles with 'washback' or double dipping with crudites.

I've no idea what could happen and am not suggesting anything could, just made me squeamish and normally I am quite relaxed with my nearest and dearest just not so with strangers. Also quite surprised to see this is the norm and accepted.

In contrast, I have never tried the whole fish eating your foot thing but am totally relaxed about that but have seen various health concerns re that for humans and the fish.

To Captain Scarlet - eyebrow threading is plucking eyebrow hairs between strands of cotton wound tightly together rather than using tweezers.

There's a lot that doesn't bear thinking about if you look too hard. On a scale of 1 to 10 (one being a bit of spit and ten being Howard Hughes), I can go to about a 3 and remain in my comfort zone. I wouldn't let those pedi-fish anywhere near my toes though. Yuck.

If anyone wants to seriously treat themselves then the absolute QUEEN of the Arch is Shivata at Harrods. Wildly inconvenient (she only works Wednesdays), but she'll have you looking like a movie star in about 7 minutes flat.

    • So sorry to hear this. Our bike was stolen from outside Dulwich Library earlier this month. We had a D Lock and they still got through. Probably the same person who’s just cruising up and down the lane. I hope you find it.
    • Hi, I would like to raise some awareness around East Dulwich especially on Lordship lane.  Today my bike electric bike was stolen from in front of my house between the hours of 9:00 and 10:45. If anyone see anything I would be very grateful.  Please do not use a chain lock to lock your bike. Preferably a d-lock. My bike was double locked with two chains and they still manage to take it. Be careful and be aware of Thief.  Here are some pictures of my bike. If you see or hear anything I would really appreciate it.
    • Brilliant, thank you all! sounds like we have a few nights out up our sleeves 🙂
