I had an email this morning to say that the new M & S (in the flat complex next to East Dulwich Station) will be opening at 10am on 15.11.18. Contrary to the artist's impressions on the original plans it seems this is to be another Food Hall (not just a Simply Food).

Yes, without doubt. A convenience store can't have that? I was merely reporting what I saw, people in the queue chatting to each other, a buzz of a new store opening. The first 200 people who picked up a 'lucky ticket' may be able to chip in here too..

I got a so called lucky ticket.... Wasn't nothing to shout about tho

What I can tell you is they caught a shoplifter within half hour of the store opening!

But yes of course there was a buzz..... I personally think the buzz was more In relation to the freebies people wanted!

The store manager seemed happy & at ease about the whole process

Perhaps Southwark Council are responsible for the bad weather too? Whereas the Lib Dems take no responsibility for the shambles we see with Royal Mail.

I'm a grumpy old cynic and don't like shopping generally - just popped in there and by golly siouxie's right, it does have a good atmosphere! Clean, well laid out, good range, and importantly, unlike Sainsbury's Local and Tesco Extra, doesn't only offer the more expensive wines - decent Fairtrade Chenin on offer at ?5 a bottle. Definitely a good addition to the, ahem, 'hood, especially for those of us down near the station for whom the LL outlets are a bit far to walk to get supplies for surprise guests.

I know it just opened but personally I don't think the new M&S is half as good as the one near North Cross Rd. I didn't like the layout, could be due to a 'funny shaped' space, not sure. The self serve tills are very small & squashy & weren't working very well ,they seemed to have more variety of some items like eg soup but no trace of other things at all that the other store has.
I'd prefer at least one permanently staffed check-out counter. About 2/3 of the time I always have to be helped because my bag is not in the right place, etc. Today, an elderly person didn't know how to use the self-service till. One till was opened eventually because the Q grew. It's OK, not great; I'm more excited about the library....
Seriously don't buy anybody's wine for a fiver in this country. ?4.63 of it is for stuff that has nothing to do with grapes like tax, duty, glass, shipping and profit. You have to do some pretty unpleasant things to get wine to taste drinkable for 37p.

I think it's a false comparison, to be fair. The station store is simply that, a convenience store. They have less space so won't be able to carry as much.

    • He/she followed me and my friends quite a long way along the road so we worried they might be out of their catchment area. Quite dusty paws which also made me think perhaps they’d been roaming away from home for a few days. Took photos in case anyone is missing them! Very pretty, friendly long-haired black and white cat, leopard print collar, pink paw-print metal tag. They eventually stopped following us across the road from Mrs Robinson.

    • I just did this survey. There are a number of problems with it. For example, in at least two questions you have an option "other, please specify" but there is no way to specify what the "other" is. Also, you have several questions where if you have nothing appropriate to answer, you get a statement "this is a required question", or words to that effect, so you have to put in something like "nothing" in order to move on. Can I suggest that this is likely to confuse people so they just give up half way through? Maybe you should test it out on a few people before going "live" with it?
    • I went to Brockwell Lido on a hot day last summer to do some lengths. It was busy.  I kept getting other people's hair, which was floating around the pool, tangled in my hands. It was gross. I'm not sure if that was unusual, or if it's always like that on a hot day.
