maxxi
Great to have TMS back in my ear - just a shame, although I've enjoyed a lot of the IPL, that WI have fine players in India who should still be playing for their test team.Gayle just scored 128 off 62b with 13 sixes (yes, dlf maximums...) and is top scorer in the IPL - money talks.Chanderpaul holding them together atm. Peckhamgatecrasher
I agree, it's Packer all over again.Have I mentioned I'm in love with Henry Blofeld? Love the juxtaposition between him and slow left arm. Brendan
I'm still not sure how the guy from James Bond got a job on the cricket. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2096-idle-cricket-musing/page/60/#findComment-545466 Share on other sites
maxxi
Well, today by wearing "blue suede shoes and red socks" and (according to the nice lady from the Compton Cricket Club, Calif. USA) by being a member of the Cripps. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2096-idle-cricket-musing/page/60/#findComment-545471 Share on other sites

Brendan
Interesting. I knew his father did but didn't know his secretary did too. This chap must be getting on a bit though. maxxi
Well if today was supposed to be an advert for test cricket the IPL have won hands down... This kind of slow play and ridiculous over rate could put you to sleep at the wheel... is that snoring I hear from the Tavern stand?Y-A-W-N- - - - - - -! Peckhamgatecrasher
Oh tush, maxxi. You must be a Philistine if you don't see the beauty and breathless wonder a description of cranes.I suppose the answer is to fine (money or runs) if the over rate is slow, but that would be rather tacky. Peckhamgatecrasher
What an exciting end. That's what makes 5 day test matches so brilliant. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2096-idle-cricket-musing/page/60/#findComment-546187 Share on other sites
maxxi
agreed - after the misery of day two this has got more and more interesting ... thought Blowers was going to have a fit at the end "He's out! He's gone! Oh my word what excitement we have here now! Well that rather takes the shine off his hundred" and trying to picture the field settings as he rattles out- "he's got two slips, a gully no, two gullys a backward square leg, a fine leg, and- oh I really do think they might have another close-in now..."All this and ducks flying towards the commentary box... it was fate... kpc
And away from the test, interesting finish lined up at the Oval where Warwickshire need 222 to win in a low scoring game on a wicket that appears to be taking spin. Should edge it but think it will be mighty close. maxxi
Great quote from Aussie coach Mickey Arthur re the ODIs "England are playing a very good brand of cricket... England have a blueprint and it's one we'll probably need to follow."I know these one-dayers are a bit of a nothing/add-on kind of a series but the pleasure of kicking Aussie butt hasn't palled yet. david_carnell
Hurrumph. Not a good start. I wanted a captain's innings from Strauss to set an example. He'd had a good knock for M'Sex too.Where's that dastardly Saffa, Brendan, when you want him? Feel free to gloat, man.
