Despite the series being drawn, this was a pretty disappointing series for England imho.

The two drawn tests were done by lower order desperation/resolve and Paul Collingwood alone displaying the tenacity required from test cricketers.

None of the top order have had a goods series with Trott and Pietersen both looking well out of sorts. Cook has improved a little. All will retain their places though due to the lack of high-calibre replacements. Bell seems to be finding form but any attempt to bump him up the order should be avoided. His partnerships with Collingwood have been one of the few bright spots.

Matt Prior now looks to be a half-decent wicket keeper but has lost the batting ability that put him in the team in the first place.

None of our bowlers have showed true menace with the exception of Swann's first-over hoo-doo. Sidebottom is not international standard.

South Africa, if we are honest, deserved a 3-1 victory in this series and should leave the much happier team.

Bangladesh awaits but anything less than a whitewash against inferior opposition should lead to some serious soul searching by the selectors and ECB.
