It feels premature to sack Vaughan, but by God he needs some runs.

I also think there's a problem with his relationship with his management team. He seems to be trying to fiddle wickets with odd fields, as if he's publicly declaring that he's doing his best with what he's been given, and doesn't rate the plans coming from his back-up team. (unlike with Fletcher/ Cooley - where it was very clear what each bowler was to do to each batsman).

His pre-match comments about Pattinson were also unworthy, as was giving him three overs on that first day, when Flintoff and Anderson bowled four times as many.

Would rather it didn't. This is a bloody disgrace, and I want a thrashing that may force someone to do something about it!

As far as I'm concerned, good field positioning is not enough to make you captain. Beyond him, there are several players who need to look what they are doing, it's starting to get like the football team, where is the passion?!?!?

231 all out. Freddie semed to be trying to do the right thing and take it slow, but had no other batsmen with him.

I have a feeling that it was messing with a winning formula to bring Flintoff back into the side that has started this slide into averageness. I was planning to attend the Oval Test on my birthday - but not sure it will feel like a treat now.

    • Labour was right not to increase fuel duty - it's not just motorists it affects, but goods transport. Fuel goes up, inflation goes up. Inflation will go up now anyway, and growth will stagnate, because businesses will pass the employee NIC hikes onto customers.  I think farms should be exempt from the 20% IHT. I don't know any rich famers, only ones who work their fingers to the bone. But it's in their blood and taking that, often multi-generation, legacy out of the family is heart-breaking. Many work to such low yields, and yet they'll often still bring a lamb to the vet, even if the fees are more than the lamb's life (or death) is worth. Food security should be made a top priority in this country. And, even tho the tax is only for farms over £1m, that's probably not much when you add it all up. I think every incentive should be given to young people who want to take up the mantle.
