When does everyone start putting up their Christmas Tree?

my mum's got choccy decoratations on her tree, some of those go back twenty years too. She won't let us eat them!

What can I decorate my cactus with? Baubles wont hang on the spines and putting a fairy on the top is just cruel (funny though). Where can I get some tinsel and small sparkly lights from? Its a big domestic cactus, but that means it is only 1 foot high.

If you can face it, Ikea have little strings of little lights powered by a little battery pack (about 1m long). Woolies for everything else.
