I like to make the best of things.

And i've always eaten the ugly-cuts, organs & throw away bits of a beast.

So being 'Thrifty' has become a game of sorts. I like to see what I can make of things that are in abundance or free.

Afterall, in the coming years it's going to get tougher, so making, mending & creative economy is the way forward for many of us I think.

If you have spotted any particularly spectacular bargains or come up with a neat idea, then do please share.

In The Legendary Penge Food Centre Pineapples are literally piled high and cheap. So, it's chutney pan-a-go-go next week here at Curtain Towers & i've half a pig coming from my farmer friend on the 12th.

A little "trading" is always welcome.

If we all do this we will crash the economy - just as dangerous as the Occupy movement - I'm up for the challenge - I love a poor man's caaserole which is to use all the stuff in your fridge that is approaching it's throw out date.

Also go to Lidl religiously - the quality and prices are unparalled and thronging with amazed middle class folk these days.

Paradox of Thrift

500gb portable hard disk coming up for 30 quid this week.

Erm....

I'm way-way down with the Lidl thang.

However, this is not the Sydenham branch you speak of. The place that's more a branch of social services than supermarket, where people walk round in two left shoes stolen from the rack outside of Stead & Simpsons. A day release venue for the Maudsley.

Obviously their coach departs just as I arrive, leaving only the lightest wiff of "Gorgio" hanging in the air.

Lately...

( like at this precise moment )

I've taken to wearing one of these, instead of turning the lights on in the house.

Really, it's a real $aver. And just knowing some Fat French/Scottish power giant isn't getting my cash makes me sleep better.

Admittedly, it can give a rather "Blair Witch Project" view on things, but you soon get used to it.

My other half came into the bathroom whilst I was having a bath with it on.

"FREAK" they exclaimed, and then promptly walked into the door frame.

"That wouldn't have happend if you had yours switched on" I replied.

Later we both settled down and read our books.

"So, you're working as a miner now" inquired my youngest in the morning.

"and you're weird" he said, frowning.

Bless him.

I believe the portable hard drives for ?30 are a regional offer and not available in the London area. I'll be grateful if you could prove me wrong as I'm interested in the product.

Maxxi

It's the modern day version of the "Scrooge Candle"

I'm splashing out on batteries as the LED hardly uses any power. And I can see the wind-up version winding-me-up, does it slowly 'click-wirr' as it discharges its power. I wonder.

As for the Red option. Pray caution, there's a weird mental condition that develops under the influence of a red lamp.

I haven't a clue what is's called.

But it's there no less.

    • Hi, I would like to raise some awareness around East Dulwich especially on Lordship lane.  Today my bike electric bike was stolen from in front of my house between the hours of 9:00 and 10:45. If anyone see anything I would be very grateful.  Please do not use a chain lock to lock your bike. Preferably a d-lock. My bike was double locked with two chains and they still manage to take it. Be careful and be aware of Thief.  Here are some pictures of my bike. If you see or hear anything I would really appreciate it.
    • Brilliant, thank you all! sounds like we have a few nights out up our sleeves 🙂
    • Gawd another gaff pushing Botox and other such stuff..🙄
    • Yama Momo is excellent and I highly reccomed Sushi Garden on Dartmoth Road Forest hill (opposite Forest Hill Pools) The chef there worked in some top Sushi resturants in Central london previously, one of my neighbours reccomended it and I can honestly say its superb and very reaonable for great quality food.
