Recently we have had works undertaken on the frontage of our house in Solway Road.

Today my neighbour, a woman in her seventies living alone, was called on by a man calling himself Barry Thompson who said he was a surveyor working on our house. He spun a story about having noticed damp in her attic and offered to take her to the bank to take out ?4000 as "a deposit" for some piece of equipment to deal with this problem.

Needless to say the whole thing is a scam. We have not employed a surveyor and I can only think that having seen the scaffolding on our property he thought he would try to rob my neighbour of a large amount of money.

I'm just writing this to warn other people and if anybody has an idea who this Barry Thompson is then let me know. The police have already been called.

Thanks.

    • It’s good to see local councillors are taking this crash seriously, hopefully the police will also. The tyres marks left on the road suggest speed could have been a factor. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1FaPQjGu7x/?mibextid=wwXIfr

    • Before I switched, if memory serves there was some sort of thing on Thames Water's website which you could use to determine whether or not you would be better off with a meter. No idea if it's still there. Also, I have a vague recollection that if you found you were worse off financially with the meter after a certain time period, you could switch back. Have I imagined that? Whatever, I don't actually recall hearing of anyone who thought they were worse off with a meter, though I'm sure there must be some.
