barry finch
I have just moved to Dulwich? Are there any actual good supermarkets? All I can find is Somer-bloody-fields and Tesco Express (which has no choice or range at all). I am starting to miss my old house already as at least it was near a good large Sainsbury's.Where do I buy things?:) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20664-supermarkets/ Share on other sites
*Bob*
If only there was an enormous Sainsburys close by, your prayers would be answered. If only! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20664-supermarkets/#findComment-502493 Share on other sites

barry finch
The only one I can find on Sinsbury's website says it is East Dulwich Local. I want a big one. Not one of these fancy "slightly bigger than a corner shop" ones :'( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20664-supermarkets/#findComment-502496 Share on other sites

barry finch
I try to steer clear of Google Maps and their search engine tbh. I don't want them turning into something I rely on in case they go bust overnight. Best to rely on word of mouth in case of a nuclear strike. Good question, all I know is that I can find what I want in other Sainsburys and in this one I am there for an extra half an our on average looking for things that should be in obvious places. They normally go chilled, meat, deli, bakery, grocery, household, drinks, alcohol, tills don't they? Um, is there something wrong with your legs? It's next to ED stationAh, you said you'd just moved to Dulwich (no 'East'). Do you mean the Village? If so, don't worry, you'll soon get fit walking over to all the pubs and restaurants on Lordship lane, then Sainsbuy's won't seem so far. Jeremy
If the OP had really just moved to the area, he'd realise it was a Co-op on Lordship Lane - not Somerfield.WUM Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20664-supermarkets/#findComment-502529 Share on other sites
KidKruger
"Khan's International department Store" on Rye Lane in Peckham (cheaper than Sainsbury) - Indian sub-continent, some middle eastern and african cooking ingredients, cheap fruit/veg, plasticware, cheap kitchen utensils and loads of other stuff. And it's not a 'department store' in the conventional sense, it sells loads of different 'stuff', all on one floor.Wing Tai Chinese supermarket at Camberwell (opposite McDonalds) or Peckham (near Morrisons). For Thai / Chinese / Indo-Chinese ingredients. The posts above tell you where to get ordinary groceries closer to home, but here's where you can go to get your foreign gear. barry finch
I am by Woodwarde Road. @Jeremy - it was a neighbour who told me about Somerfield - they said it was on Lordship Lane along with several other posters here. I fail to see how this makes me a WUM!!! But thank you for your kind input.East Dulwich station is quite a walk - is there really nothing bigger closer? How big is the new Waitrose? Do they do other things to groceries?I have just moved from Collier's Wood - they have a big Sainsbury's there which does TV's, DVD players, clothes etc as well as the groceries :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20664-supermarkets/#findComment-502539 Share on other sites
