KalamityKel
with the withdrawal of the bendy buses you no longer need to have a ticket before you board (bendy buses didnt take cash fares) hence the removal Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20636-where-have-the-bus-ticket-machines-gone/#findComment-501911 Share on other sites
Andrew1011
I don't understand this. With any driver only bus its got to be quicker, and less stressful for everyone, if passengers already have a ticket for their journey when they board a bus. ratty
But costly to operate when it is not needed. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20636-where-have-the-bus-ticket-machines-gone/#findComment-502033 Share on other sites
zeban
And you'll see the majority of people have oyster cards now anyway Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20636-where-have-the-bus-ticket-machines-gone/#findComment-502035 Share on other sites
Andrew1011
jonspaker Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I too don't understand thisGlad I'm not alone. There will always be people who don't have Oyster cards and it's far better to encourage pre-payment and reduce driver transactions in respect of fares, of only for speed and the reduction of driver stress. I also can't see that operating these would be any more expensive than similar parking charge machines and cost also has to be weighed against benefit. Loz
But they are an unnecessary cost. You have very few cash payments these days, so why support two methods of payment? You need to employ people to empty and maintain these machines, probably for little in the way of return.Seems sensible to remove them. Andrew1011
In my view they're not an unnecessary cost but, of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. DulwichFox
The Ticket Machines are a pain. I have missed buses trying to run fot a bus then trying to buy a ticket only to see the bus drive off. If you buy one in advance, they expire after 1 hour. The machines do not give change. They often swallow your money and give no ticket The are a real pain. zeban
Totally agree DulwichFox. Always found it completely ridiculous that you had to have the exact change. Hardly saw anyone using them. When you got on the bus and realised you had no money on your oyster then you'ld get thrown off to use the machine and miss the bus even though you had the money there and then! Bic Basher
They became even more pointless when TfL axed the paper one day bus pass you could also buy from the machine. This was replaced by the bus cap on Oyster pay as you go.
