cantthinkofaname
Hi, has anyone had a woodburner fire fitted? I find Casa in Peckham SO expensive so would be open for recommendations of how else to do it.We'll need someone to remove a faux cast iron fireplace, sweep the chimney, line the flue, and fit the fire & a new hearth.Do you use one company or buy your stove online and get a fitter to install it? All advice welcome. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/205547-wood-burning-stove-fire-who-can-fit/ Share on other sites
missdriss
I can highly recommend Firefly in East Dulwich . competitive pricing and fantastic standard of work. we had two chimneys opened up, cleaned, new hearths and 2 wood burners installed yesterday and we are delighted with the results. Angus is very informed and a great guy. Sarahchampion
You can fit it yourself or get a handyman and then get the council to sign it off for ?300 including vat. The council certificate is the same as using a heatas registered person. It?s much cheaper. My husband fitted it ours, it?s a very simple connection but you do need a big ladder to get in the roof. goldilocks
Just in case anyone is reading this thread with a view to install a woodburner thought it might be useful to post this so that you do so on an informed basis:?Domestic wood burning is the largest single source of PM2.5. According to one analysis of government data, it produces more than twice as much as all road traffic. While concerns about diesel vehicles focus largely on the nitrogen dioxide they produce, the evidence tying particulates to death and disease is even more powerful.? https://www.theguardian.com/money/2018/may/26/wood-burner-open-fire-pollution-cleaning-up-air-qualityWhilst its true that a woodburner produces less particulate matter than burning wood on an open fire, even the 'greenest' burners produce staggering amounts of particulate matter. Add in the fact we live in a densely populated area it means that the effect of woodburners is extremely detrimental to our air quality. For those of you with small children, also consider whether you want their developing lungs to be in rooms where you are burning wood even in a newer, greener burner. I know they look lovely, and theres nothing quite like curling up in front of a real fire, but burning wood or coal has so many wider implications that will last much longer than that feeling of 'hygge' from watching the flames burn! jimbo1964
It is an expensive business to do it safely. We have a Morso 04 which I can really recommend. https://www.whatstove.co.uk/morso-04-stove-reviews Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/205547-wood-burning-stove-fire-who-can-fit/#findComment-1311735 Share on other sites
welshio
Another glowing (excuse the pun) recommendation for Angus at Firefly, he fitted our stove just over a year ago and did a fantastic job. He's really knowledgable and passionate about what he does.He fitted a Charnwood C-Five for us and it is one of my favourite things about our house now.
