PecksNewbie
Hello! Does anybody have a contact who could come round and assess the damp/mould in my flat (and how to get rid of it!)? I had Environ booked in to come this morning but their surveyor has handed in his notice and they don't have anybody else for this area! Any contacts very welcome. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/202880-damp-mould-surveyor/ Share on other sites
Penguin68
The two most likely causes of damp will be (a) water incursion from damaged pipework, including guttering and downpipes and (b) condensation caused by poor ventilation. Where there is damp, mould will likely follow. Creating a sealed environment (draught proofing, double glazing etc.) sadly creates an ideal atmosphere for condensation. [Oh, and having a completely dry atmosphere, should you achieve it, also has health implications]. Condensation forms when warm wet air meets a cold surface - so you often get it on outside walls in kitchens for instance. Insulating cold surfaces (such as cavity wall insulation) may mitigate this. The problem is that the more you seal a space, the less chance the moist air has to go anywhere, so eventually it will precipitate moisture.Choose an independent surveyor, otherwise the remedy you are offered will be the one he/ she has to sell. I think I have damp in my house (just going by a smell of damp) but I'm not sure of the cause at present and was considering getting someone in to advise, hence the googling.
