I thought I'd posted a response yesterday, but it must have got lost in the ether!

I saw a really helpful and knowledgeable consultant at St. George's. She thinks it is highly unlikely that I have Lyme disease, but just to be absolutely sure (and to set my mind at rest for the future) she has prescribed three weeks on a high dose of Doxycycline, which is the antibiotic of choice for Lyme disease and will thoroughly zap any bacteria should they be there.

She agrees with King's that the vertigo is probably due to vestibular neuritis, and almost certainly due to a virus and nothing to do with Lyme. It wasn't her specialism, but her husband had it so she had personal experience, which was useful for me!

She said it is very debilitating, which is why I am feeling so ill and exhausted, and gave me a lot of good advice about handling it - including making myself do things instead of sitting around at home. I had stopped taking the tablets I was prescribed because they were making me feel worse, and she has recommended something else to help my system gradually get back to normal, which may take some time.

She also gave me quite a bit of advice which was unexpected for a medical doctor, including things to get from a "health food" shop, and taking up "mindfulness"!

I was out last night and today I am feeling quite a bit better and brighter - psychological, probably! Long may it continue!

Thanks everybody for your advice and sympathy, and I hope anybody else out there who is ill will have a speedy recovery!

Thanks, I had been feeling rubbish with bad headaches etc since early June (the tick bite was in May) and having hypochondriac tendencies and done a lot of googling had convinced myself it was Lyme disease, so I am quite relieved it is being treated even if it isn't there, if that makes sense!

    • Let's wait and see how many affordable family homes and affordable housing actually get built.
    • I had thought it was to the actor Gary Cady, but apologies if that is wrong. The 'problem' with it as a restaurant venue is that it is built, as it were, to offer a 'country house' experience, but it is in an area where there is no passing trade, but where, quite close, there is a plethora of good restaurants. It therefore does not have a compelling niche or offer. When it's the only posh game in town, driving out to a country house venue has obvious attractions, but not when you can readily choose many other offers relatively close. It would only work if it could get a ** or *** Michelin rep, but it's never been able to build that. Hence looking for wedding or more dubious gigs. It has offered good 'nights' (such as night-club style magic performances) but it can't keep up sufficient regularity to build a loyal customer base. Ideally it needs, perhaps, an excellent existing up-market restaurant brand to move there, but again its positioning away from good public transport (West Dulwich doesn't have enough trains) doesn't make a compelling offer  in London.
    • So posh chicken then. Shame then that the supply of chicken is going to become harder to acquire and more expensive through the increased prevalence of bird flu
    • Well yes, never heard those terms or used, so it was a case of googling to find out what they mean. Others may know or be acquainted with those activities on here???
