Where can I buy a hamster?

We have promised our daughter a pet hamster for her 6th birthday but don?t know where to get one! All the pet shops in the area are ?pet supplies? shops selling nothing more exciting that a fish.

Anyone know how one goes about procuring a happy little rodent these days?
