ontheedge
Hi all, have had great advice from here before, got 15 year old hormonal grunting nephew and his dad visiting for 3 days, actually a very sweet boy, very into footballer, rugby and history. Anyone got any bright ideas, so far thinking of IMAX, Trocadero, Camden market! Are there any football games on I have no idea! Any pointers appreciated as to what an almost non verbal (previously very chatty) teenage Irish boy would like in London. Last time over he was about 8 loved Oliver and the imperial war Museum. Thanks in advance for some suggestions Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/200391-15-year-old-nephew-visiting/ Share on other sites

mrsparker
We took my 12 year old nephew on the Thames Rib Experience last summer. He absolutely loved it (he's a premature moody teen ;www.thamesribexperience.comFor an evening out how about Backyard Cinema at MERCATO METROPOLITANO, you can mooch about beforehand in the market, loads of amazing food. Easy to get to too (40 or 176 bus) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/200391-15-year-old-nephew-visiting/#findComment-1269458 Share on other sites

Tanza
Ooh yes, I'd second the Mercato Metropolitano - which you could combine with either a walk into town (only about 15-20 mins walk to London Bridge/ river - and then either go left to the Tate Modern (great free views from the top) or paid-for views at the Shard. If yoru nephew liked the Imperial War Museum when he was young - it's been entirely renovated and is walking distance from the Mercato so could be worth a second look.On a different day - (and this is assuming he's done the typical tourist sites before and doesn't plan to re-do them) you could spend a morning around King's Cross area - my 14-year old likes this. The British Library is worth a look (for historical documents and original song lyrics etc) - also has a Captain Cook exhib on now, that is getting good reviews. Then there's cool Granary Square for lunch nearby and wandering about in (u can play table tennis inside the school of art, but possibly that's an uncool step too far). The nearby Wellcome Institute, walking distance on Euston Road, always has unusual free exhibitions and a gift shop that's proved a hit with my son's friends. Agree Camden is a good idea and the Rib experience sounds great too.And I nearly forgot - there is a really, really fascinating exhibition on at the V&A now called "The future is here" that my teen agreed is well worth seeing. Looks at how design and tech is shaping our world - that makes it sound boring, but it really was eye-opening stuff. It's a paid for one so you'd need to book.mrsparker Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> We took my 12 year old nephew on the Thames Rib> Experience last summer. beansprout
How about one of these walks in London with qualified guides - I did one years ago with a kid of that age to do with law and he throughly enjoyed it. Then went rowing in Regents Park. If it is still in Ruskin Park how about the high wire? Has a safety net to fall into. Looks great or walking over the Olympic Park Roof. A walk along South Bank is always good with plenty going on night and day and street food as well.
