Dear all

Last year my fellow Labour councillor for Goose Green, Charlie Smith, put in a bid to fund three public benches in East Dulwich. These seem to have been popular and well-received so we are going to put in three more.

It?s not a totally open question because there are some safety requirements we have to adhere to (the pavement needs to be quite wide for instance) but in general we want to allocate place them wherever they are most wanted. This might be somewhere that provides less mobile pedestrians with a place to rest, or perhaps somewhere where people like to mingle. Or perhaps somewhere with an entirely different reason.

So, where would you like a new bench to be placed in Goose Green ward?

Either respond on here or email me directly on [email protected]

Best wishes

James

I think this bit of Greendale may just squeeze into GG ward. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1895316,1895426#msg-1895426

ETA Yes, it does. The boundary follows the railway line on the attached map, which is the best I can find. For some reason I'm not seeing the overlay facility on https://maps.southwark.gov.uk.

Hi all

I just went away and made a similar map to ianr but he beat me to it!

We?ve got a few ideas for places but I would rather hear from everyone else at this stage.

And dbboy - yes we could probably do more if there was sufficient demand for them. Of course, they don?t come for free so there is always a trade off with these things.

Best wishes

James

Yes I realise they do not come for nothing, no such thong as a free lunch as they say

BUT as you represent the people who live in the Ward or travel through it to use facilities in and around the Ward, would have thought you would want to do the best to serve the community and leave your mark in the Ward of what you have eventually achieved. Like your predecessor did.

At least you are engaging with the community unlike some others see another thread who not appear to be doing so.

Places which do not encourage congregation of groups intent on anti social behaviour. Where the pavement is wide enough to allow prams and wheelchair easy access. ( Some of the eating establishments in LL are putting more and more table and chairs outside which could cause obstruction to prams/wheelchairs/mobility scooters, and a danger to those with impaired vision.)
It's a contentious issue as I live near to where a bench used to be at Greendale (not there now) and this summer has been great because we no longer have people gathering there at night. They were noisy and would be there till late at night, stopping us from sleeping. I really would not welcome another bench. Anyone suggesting it should try putting one outside their bedroom window first...

My understanding was that they have done, but they are also asking for residents' suggestions.

It's in the sixth post on the thread:
