Birmingham's Bavarian Christmas Market is reputed to be the biggest in the UK, I used to enjoy the authenticity of it, many German stalls and food outlets. I went last year and although still very good a some of the stalls were selling tat, nevertheless still enjoyable, even if mighty, mighty busy on the Saturday I went.

there's quite a big one on the southbank- but by the time you've filled up on tiny ?4 cups of gluhwein, you might as well pay for a flight.

however; if you're looking to go out of town it'll probably work out just as cheap to catch an easyjet or ryanair flight to one of the decent german one's.

I can recommend Trier- it's quite small but beautiful.

Flying into Luxemburg City would do it. Luxemburg City is also bloomin lovely.
