New screens in the gym

Recommended Posts

I am very surprised that no one has commented on the new screens in the gym yet. The scroll pattern repeat taken from the mezzanine balustrade is a bit pastiche for my tastes and unnecessary but apart from that I like the way they define the space in the gym. And they look very sturdy indeed. I do like our new gym very much, though it still gets quite stuffy in there despite the recent air conditioning improvements.

The screens are a bit quaint & as you say they do define the areas. Maybe an attempt at re-creating a period Victorian feel?

As for the Air Con ....... Hmm ..... I noticed that the thermometer has been removed from the wall. As it only went up to boiling point .... it was probably just not up to the job in there!

The "old" layout with entry via the front doors always had some sort of air movement (some say draught?) through the space. With the AC units chipping in with cold air. Which was usually OK.

The new layout has in effect sealed the gym, so all the air movement & cooling has to come from the AC units & with the warm weather, glass roof, lots of people & lots more TV screens they just don't seem up to it.

Let's see how it fares in the winter. Being warm/hot in summer is to be expected, but if it is also cold in winter .... then they do have a problem.

I think the new screens look unsightly and the interior of the gym now looks cramped and too 'busy'. Not sure why they are needed - perhaps for modesty as you are facing opposite other people and sweating in their faces maybe! Definitely don't like them.

    • I've done some searching and come up with these.  The first looks very helpful for getting to know about the Hub itself, and the others may give some useful history.  I've yet to look through them myself. https://carnegielibraryhub.org.uk/
    • I'm with Octopus, and I have no idea what to do either. Finding it hard to get my head around it all. They seem to have a 15 month fix with no exit fees, however I'm not sure if I exited whether I could just revert to whatever I'm on at the moment, or whether I might find that whatever that is might no longer be an available option. I tend to just heat whatever room I'm in and/or use a heated throw. And use the microwave where possible unless I've got an oven full of stuff which I can then freeze most of.

    • ??? I feel really weak and  dizzy, I don't think it's a good idea at all to be out. And my vitamin D level is actually much too high. Last time I had blood tests, my  GP told me to stop taking vitamin tablets.  But thanks for your concern! I appreciate the advice, but I only came on here to see if other people had similar symptoms!
