lofty
Has anyone else received a letter from the council about a company coming round their house to carry out a survey to see whether their property is suitable for wall or loft insulation? The letter doesn't state if the council will pay for this and leaves things unexplained. We own our property and thought this may have been sent by accident as it seems like something more to do with social housing.I have called Southwark but didn't manage to speak to the person on the letter (left a voicemail)Can anyone enlighten me? Penguin68
If you have a loft then you are suitable for loft insulation (there is some money available I think for certain categories of individuals to get some financial help with this) - if you have a Victorian, Edwardian or earlier property you probably don't anyway have cavity walls to insulate - the alternative (wall insulation either internal or external) is very expensive (comparatively) - this month's Which magazine discusses this in some detail. However, I wouldn't let anyone into the house 'cold-calling' without some very clear ID - and not at all if I was alone and considered myself vulnerable. Perhaps if you are interested in the survey and can get through to the Council you could arrange a specific time/ date for a visit. lofty
Yep no cavity as it's Victorian. Was thinking of upgrading the loft insulation anyway so if it does work out to be for real and the council pay for it then it's a bonus. Will wait to hear from the guy at Southwark to confirm it's for real. It's just a bit odd them not going into any detail of who would be paying etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19887-cavity-wall-and-loft-insulation-letter/#findComment-479827 Share on other sites
