Our son has just discovered stairs & we're debating what stair gate to get. The bottom two steps are past the post, so we're not sure if we need one that would go round all the steps, but take up more hallspace, or just across where the post is.

I've tried to attach a photo to help make sense.

Ideally we wouldn't need to drill etc.

Thanks!

Rob

We have ours at the second stair and this has been fine. We use a retractable gate (https://www.safetots.co.uk/safetots-advanced-retractable-safety-gate-white-60cm-120cm.html) which we find is less obtrusive than the old swing gate we had.

Unfortunately I think you will have to drill. Using a non-drill gate in your position has three drawbacks to my mind:

1. Needs to be installed higher up the stairs so there is a solid wall on both sides

2. Leaves a trip hazard part way up the stairs

3. In my experience they move eventually with a determined toddler hanging on them

    • All the parents looking after their kids instead of skiving from their meaningless desk jobs might mean it's quieter on here. Still, at least it gives free rein to the bad-tempered, long-winded pensioners that begin their posts "having resided in Dulwich for a not inconsiderable number of decades, may I be so bold as to suggest..." 😉

    • We have been patients at Sternhall Lane for years. Our experience has generally been incredibly positive with speedy responses and very helpful staff. We are generally fortunate to get a same day appointment should we really need one either at Sternhall Lane or at Tessa Jowell and any necessary referalls have been swift.
    • @Alice if left might have been stolen/taken by someone (peed on by a dog or fox), also there are some little things attached of - I assume - sentimental value. I hope the owner can claim them. Will leave a note indeed with info how to retrieve them, though not with a private phone number in a public space 😅 Maybe a friend of a friend will come across this post on EDF.  @embob97 They do have a ring, sorry.
