It was on in the gym yesterday afternoon but a bit random depending on where you are in the room! The upstairs rooms have portable ac units which are incredibly noisy so a quick blast at the beginning of the class and that has to do for the remainder unless you want to be deafened. EveryoneActive has never resolved the ac/heating problems inherited from the previous owners and are still in dispute with the council. So the customers are caught in their battle annoyingly.

What the building needs is windows that open. Vast sums have been spent on air conditioning and fans that do not work and take up space.

What is needed is windows that crank open at the top of each room. Counting 10 years and the air temperature control in this building has hemoraged money

See my earlier post. Also I do wonder what effect the ac problems will have on the new flats next door. Not sure they will want archaic ac systems belching on to them!

Apart from the air con issues, I?m particular fond of the hole in the floor in the weights area ..visions of someone going straight through into the swimming pool below

And that?s after they ?fixed it?

Also those hanging lights are caked in dust, cobwebs and assorted dust

Well that?s my whinge for the day sorted

Open windows in weather like this won't help as there is no breeze. Air con is actually the only way to keep a space like that cool.

I was there this morning and although hot it was bearable.

I went there today at lunchtime and the heat in the gym wasn't too bad but what did strike me was how grubby the showers and toilets were in the ladies changing room.

The showers were full of flies and smelt really dirty.

Ive never seen it this bad before.

this was in the ladies dry changing rooms.

I had a look round there before I joined this gym to be honest the offer felt very limited and I wanted a gym with pool.

but thanks!

Despite promises of air con and refurbishments taking place with various dates of closures and classes being cancelled or changed the situation seems to have gotten worse. It's taken months or years to get things moving and it's dreadful today studio 2 upstairs was like a sauna, with all fans going it was at the brink of cancelling classes altogether. Staff can't really do much but apologise but it is utterly ridiculous.

    • Labour's latest Rye Lane Ward newsletter is now saying that demolition in the square will start this summer and that the wider station upgrade is expected to be signed off this year - as explained above, sadly wrong on both counts. It describes the renovation of adjacent buildings on Blenheim Grove as "successful", despite having lain empty for a couple of years, longer than the actual renovation works, before saying "the Council is hopeful [it] will see its first new occupants move in to this year". Cue desperate attempt to get at least one in before end of financial year? As for the other topic, in "November 2023, faced with a huge increase in graffiti across the borough, Labour-run Southwark council took action". Nice turn of phrase eh? Rather, after community pressure regarding years of inaction by said Labour-run council, it's finally started to do a little bit, a little late. Surely there would be more chance of resolving issues if our council could for once be part of an honest, informed discussion?
    • I don’t think anyone has mentioned Peckham FoodCycle yet, they might enjoy some apples! https://foodcycle.org.uk/location/foodcycle-peckham-saturdays/
    • Just wanted to recommend Roger from Critter Solutions Pest Control if anyone’s dealing with mice or other unwanted guests. We had a sudden issue with mice in our home's kitchen and after calling around, these guys were by far the most responsive and professional. Roger arrived on time, was really friendly, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He did a full inspection and sealed up some access points we hadn’t even noticed. Since his treatment we haven’t seen or heard anything since. What I appreciated most was that it didn’t feel like a rushed job or a hard sell – just honest advice and thorough work. All backed with a guarantee.  Would definitely use them again (hopefully won’t need to!) and thought I’d share in case anyone local is looking.
