DulwichFox
I must waste gallons of water each month just washing cartons, bottles, soup and bean cans, plastic milk bottles etc etc just to comply with Southwark Council requesting all containers are Clean. peterstorm1985
Either wash in the last of the washing up water, or chuck in the dishwasher. Never do a special wash - that's a crime. mockney piers
All our new bins came with a leaflet explaining everything. We've a blue skip, which is fun.I did find it odd that they won't take away the blue boxes and apparently they're not eligible to be recycled either. They suggested we use it as a toy box, as if I'm letting my son near that thing that's spent the last few years battered by the elements full of stale beer drips and regularly molested by foxes!! (the box, not my boy!!) red devil
I keep one of the blue boxes indoors (the dark navy livery I hasten to add, otherwise think of the colour clash) to put all recycled bits and pieces in, and when full take a trip to the massive blue bin, and keep another box outdoors for garden bits and bobs...sprays, slug pellets, compost etc...keeps everything nice and dry. Mockers, stop being a boy in a bubble and just roll your sleeves up and give them a good scrub with hot water and disinfectant :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19794-what-the-heck-is-the-massive-blue-bin-for/page/2/#findComment-479448 Share on other sites

Otta
I can't believe that anyone would feel the need to moan about this. *Bob*
I think it's worthy of a mini-moan. Perhaps not in the same league as the staving millions, repeal of the death penalty or poor wireless broadband range - but a moan nonetheless. In consideration of the requirements for a recycling bin, there are only really two relevant factors: 'is it the right size?', and (bearing in mind there's going to be one outside every house) 'what colour is it?'. What we seem to have ended-up with is a bin which is a) more than twice the size it needs to be and b) fashioned in a colour that no-one in their right mind would ever choose for their car, their clothes, their face or indeed their worst enemy. I think I've only ever seen that colour twice: on airline blankets - and Pat Butcher's face.To that end, the new bins are completely imbecilic and represent a certain crashing stupidity that often accompanies these mundane 'improvements' that councils make - when a better course of action could have been achieved for no extra cost - and would surely have occurred to anyone at some stage in the process - anyone, save a complete moron. mockney piers
Points taken about the awfulness of the colour blue (it is the colour of scotch people after all), one can just stick to the box if they prefer. Never let reason get in the way of a good moan though, especially if the council are involved (unless they're ranaming guy fawkes to avoid offending red pens or something). fantastik
Hi there, Speaking of death prediction, I find it really odd that one of the on-line death prediction services showed me the same death date that I was foretold in my dream about a year ago.?http://yourdeathdate.info/1/index.html?- I can?t explain this coincidence in any other way except that there must be some kind of magic involved here. Jeremy
Does anybody else have two brown bins? Not just the small one (which looks like it's supposed to fit onto something, but I'm not sure what), but also a slightly larger brown one too. Is the idea that you keep the smaller one in your kitchen, and the larger one stays outside? Can you put general recylcing (cans, plastic, etc) in the larger brown one? red devil
The little brown bin is for food waste only, I presume small enough so it can be kept on the kitchen floor or worktop. The big brown bin is for garden waste and the contents of the little brown bin (the Council should have left some greenish biodegradeable liners for the little bin, when full simply tie up the bag and drop it into the big brown bin). The blue bin is for recyclable waste only. The green bin is for non-recyclable waste only. sophiesofa
I think (though I may be wrong) there are actually 3 brown bins available. A mini caddy for inside, a small one that I presume is given to houses/flats that don't already has any kid of brown bin (not many people were given these, but sounds like Jeremy was) to transfer interneal brown bin contents into for bin men to collect and the big garden bin that is for garden and/or food waste.Sorry long sentence, I blame phone typing.
