Mabel2001
I had my hair cut by Aimee at Kuki Hair yesterday, from all the recommendations on here, and she was excellent. My cut is a layered long bob, quite traditional, but she executed it with flair and it looks fantastic. Very sweet staff. My only (very slight) comment is that no-one offered me a cup of tea! But it was a busy Saturday. I'll be back. JessEloise
I was thinking of trying this place. Does anyone know prices for highlights/tints and cut and if there are any deals over December? It really sounds like a wonderful place! boswell
I didn't really want to post a bad review, but feel I probably should for balance having now had two not so great experiences here. The staff have always been lovely, it's just the haircut itself. The first time I went we'd been having a really nice chat and I'd been saying that I never style my hair because I don't really know what to do with it and the woman cutting my hair said she could curl it for me at the end if I wanted. This was obviously a really nice thing to offer so I said yes. However after she curled my hair she then finished off cutting it! I was pretty unsure about this at the time but was too much of a wimp to say anything. Of course it looked great when it was done but a bit weird once I'd washed it and it was straight. A couple of months later when I went to another hair dresser they asked me who had done my layers because they were so badly done.People continued to post such good reviews here though that I felt I should give them another shot, so I specifically asked for an appointment with Shingo. There must have been a bit of a mix up because I was given someone else when I arrived but I thought I'd give them a go. I thought the cut was OK, not great, but OK, but when I got home I noticed that I still had loads of split ends in certain sections of my hair that seemed to have been 'missed'. And then over Christmas I was talking to my cousin, who used to be a hairdresser, and went to tell her about this. I got as far as 'I've just had my hair cut, but it wasn't great because' when she cut in with 'yes they've cut it too short at the front haven't they'. Not what I was going to say but she obviously wasn't impressed with it!As I said they are really lovely in there so I feel a bit bad posting this, but the reason I've gone there both times have been reviews on the forum so felt I should post my experience as well. Gidget
Boswell,Who were the two people you had, even though you asked for Shingo the second time? sambobia
A surprise to read a poor review-but that's what the forum is all about. I'm a regular at kuki and have only praise for shingo, paula and Australian lady with long red hair-I've see them all churn out some amazing cuts and colours. So, who indeed cut your hair? I have complete faith that both paula and shingo will insist on rectifying your experiences. mrure26
I am surprised also at hearing a negative comment re Kuki. I've been using them since a few months after they opened and have Shingo for a cut every few months and from time to time half head highlights. I've never had a bad experience yet, in fact the opposite and having tried so many local hairdressers who were not very good, I find Kuki's a real benefit to the area. I agree that Paula and Shingo would not only rectify your experiences but would like to hear of them. Sue
Boswell, did you actually tell them on either occasion that you weren't happy with your cuts?I'm also very surprised to hear of anybody having a negative experience there, but I'm sure they would bend over backwards to put things right for you if they knew about it. Huggers
I've had excellent results from Kuki's. One time when I realized that some side bits of hair were not going to work when I wash and dried them in the same way that they did when Shingo dried them I just popped into the salon and someone snipped a bit off and then it was perfect.don't you think when a hairdresser asks 'who last cut your hair?' it can be a bit of a business grabbing cliche? boswell
Perhaps it was just an attempt to get my business, I don't know, but it backed up what I felt myself. I knew that posting a negative review wouldn't be popular but when I'd used this forum myself to help decide on a hairdresser I thought it right to provide an honest response about how I felt about my experience there. No I didn't say how I felt - I'm a wimp so probably wouldn't have anyway but both times it wasn't until I'd got home that I realised. I didn't really want to personally name people (partly because I still wanted to go back and try Shingo but now this completely outs me!) but the last cut I had was with Amy (who was really nice), I can't remember the name of the first person who cut my hair the first time as it was a while ago. Huggers
no I think it's fine to say. Ive had haircuts I didnt like with hairdressers other people liked and it took me years to leave them. Out there there's someone for everyone somewhere and it's not the same for everyone. mrure26
Shingo and his crew are very pleasant people and would be open to criticism I am certain, so I would not consider yourself to be outed, but to return and mention your previous experiences. Try Shingo but book well in advance as he tends to be popular! I think that your comment being the only negative one within the Kuki forum, says a lot for Kuki's expertise. Huggers
I would agree with Mrure. I havent had my hair cut for three months because I forgot to book Shingo and then he was away on hols and I didnt want anyone else to do it as it is very fine- Ive got my longed for appointment next week. eleanor.m.
I've been going to Kuki for coming up to a year now. I have an all over colour every month and have had a couple of cuts. Both of my cuts have been with Pauline and I've been really pleased with the results. I didn't have anything dramatic done, but it's always nice when people notice and point out how nice your hair looks (especially when you haven't told them you've just had it cut!). I've not had Aimee for a cut, but she has done my colour several times and has done a really good job of it (likewise for Pauline). I specifically remember Aimee going above and beyond on one occasion when I asked for a blow-dry but hadn't booked in for one. She and Shingo simultaneously blow-dried my hair (one on each side!) so that I could have it done within the time they had allowed for my colour (and rough dry). This was on a Saturday so they were really busy, but I really appreciated it and would highly recommend Kuki.I agree that Pauline and Shingo would take on board any criticism leveled at Kuki and I'm sure they would be more than happy to rectify any cuts/colours people are unhappy with. klove
Misslittlerose, being curly haired myself and having had quite a few dodgy cuts in the past I understand the need for recommendations, but my hair's been cut by Shingo, Amy and Marco, and each time I loved the result. Marco also cut another curly friends hair and she also looked fab. Pheobe
Just to say quickly, I've just had my hair cut by Victoria at Kuki (bellenden road) and it's the best cut I've had in absolutely ages. Will definitely book with Victoria again. jwall
Just been to Kuki hairdressers today - really impressed with the salon and my hairdresser Gunel. Great cut - and ?40 seems to be a good rate compared to other places in the area with a good rep. Will be using this place from now on. mrure26
I've been going to Kuki's since shortly after they opened. They are all great stylists but Shingo is the shining star. He is a true hair technician. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19793-kuki-hair-bellenden-road/page/5/#findComment-756550 Share on other sites
Pickle
I continue to be a very happy customer. I have my hair very short, and it looks just as good the day before it's due for another cut as it does the day I leave the salon. Shingo is brilliant and seems to be able to cut in a way that lasts even as it grows. I experiment with colour a lot, and have never been disappointed.Shingo is my preferred stylist, but I've also had cuts and colours done by Gemma who is also very very good.A combination of excellent stylists and a really chilled out feel make this salon the best I've ever used.
